Micro-suede or micro-velvet. Cleans with no issues. Easy to vaccum and just some water and dawn will get even red wine off of it. I have an off white micro velvet sofa and I spilled a decent amount of red wine on it due to a kid who jumped on me while I was holding a glass. Super easy to clean off as mentioned and went that route because the one before was micro-suede and it was also that easy to clean. The bonus with a micro-suede is the kids likes to draw on the cushions. The micro-velvet doesn't allow that the same way. Just make sure it is one of the better quality ones. I can't remember the brand on either of mine, but it was well known. I think the micro suede was Oro or D'oro or something like that. I've written before about my love affair with Crypton fabrics from this company. I don't really understand Crypton, because you can buy it from different sources and it's different fabrics - so maybe the process to make it Crypton is sold to different distributors? IDK, but I had my sectional covered in the Crypton from this company. It's a very subtle herringbone in an oatmealish color. It's light, I'll try to link it - it might take me some time to find it, but I'll edit it in. But I love the feel, it's a rayon blend, so it's soft, and it's made in the USA. It is nothing like sunbrella which I find too stiff and fake feeling. Water clean. All their fabrics are different, some are from China, some solvent clean, some synthetic fabrics, so you have to check the ones you like for the properties you want.
I had my newly covered sectional home for about 2 weeks I caught my toe on the leg of the coffee table and spilled a FULL glass of red wine all over it. OMG, I about died. I got on the internet fast and it said to use some dishsoap on a wet cloth to blot the stain and rinse with clean wet cloths. I did and the wine completely disappeared. No marks where it was cleaned. Whew! About 2 weeks later I noticed a spot that I had missed on the front, down low. I did the same treatment and it came right out. I've removed chocolate my grandson got on it, same thing. It is bombproof. They have some nubby fabrics; I didn't look at composition, but take a look:

Please do not suggest a slipcover to wash; she tried that already on their big sofa and it did not go well.

Uh, oh, you caught me. You may want to avert your eyes, but here goes.

We have an enormous off white duck slipcovered sectional from Mitchell Gold, that seats about 75 people. It takes a day or so to wash all the slipcovers, but I am amazed at how well they wash, for a sofa that is 11 yrs old. I was actually thinking of posting on here about how wonderful the product is but hadn't gotten around to it. I would've have expected to need to buy new slips by now. When I think about it, I have washable slipcovers on almost all of my upholstered furniture, in both houses. Huge fan. Part of it is, when you get used to having the option to wash it, it makes you start to think upholstered furniture that cannot be washed is ... kinda gross? Especially with little ones and pets.

So, kill me, but I say washable light-blue-denim slips. Pre wash the fabric before assembly. Make sure the zippers are very good quality.

Strong second to olychick's recommendation for Crypton. I put it on my kitchen banquette, the window bench cushion, and the counter stools; and it is truly bombproof, still looks exactly brand new after 5 years (and two grandchilden). They will send you a sample, and you can test it with marker, playdough, milk. chocolate, pizza, whatever, and see how beautifully it cleans up. The playroom loveseat is just a perfect spot for Crypton upholstery. It's also used in hospitals because it can be medically disinfected, another plus with little ones and their varied childhood health episodes. Love the rug!

Sunbrella or anything high performance.

I did all high-performance in my Florida house. Dogs are on it all the time.

A friend did a new sofa in sunbrella. I might look in for my NY house.

I hate sloppycovers. Oh Oh, I mean slipcovers. Mine fit very well and still need adjusting every time they get sat on. Such a nuisance. In a playroom, Sunbrella or other gorgeous outdoor fabric is perfect with a throw. also, it won’t be a playroom forever.

Use outdoor Sunbrella. It's virtually indestructable and easy to clean.

Sorry to hijack but a quick question - where does one purchase quality slipcovers? I have a couple wing chairs and an ottoman at our lake place that I'd like to get some for.

My slipcovers have one of 3 origin stories.

1. I've bought a lot of slipcovered furniture, and you can simply order new slips to fit your piece.

2. When I bought sofas and chairs for Maine, I ordered them done in a plain fabric and then had the mfr also construct slips using my (pre washed) material

3. For antique chairs that were originally upholstered, I had a local seamstress custom make the slips for me

Unless your furniture already has slips, you probably need to go with #3.

Think a ticking stripe would be adorable but not exactly kid-proof.

Slipcovers or Sunbrella fabic…but I think whatever she chooses it should be that green color from the rug. Such a cute rug!

Mtn, she hates slipcovers. She ordered a Pottery Barn sectional sofa with slipcovers and they are incredibly heavy. They can’t fit in her large capacity washer, the fabric is too dense and thick. So she has completely gone off slipcovers, hers are now filthy and she is ordering a new set of very expensive slips from PB in a dark color. She also dislikes skirted upholstery which is a given with slipcovers, so there is no way she would ever agree to them again. I do like the idea of lightish blue denim, though though—thanks!

Oly et al, thanks for the Crypton and Sunbrella suggestions. I have been out of the little kid phase so long those did not even occur to me. This is great! She wants a solid color on the loveseat and patterns only on pillows.

Yes, they are heavy; I only do 2 at a time. And I make DH take them on and off; that is the hard part!

Does the rug have green (looks like on my screen) or blue in it? I agree with using the green/aqua color. Ticking would be great and you might find a ticking stripe in a sunbrella or crypton fabric.

I had slipcovers in our sunroom (loveseat and two chairs). I had them custom made and they fit my pieces well, no skirts so stayed in place, were not wrinkled, etc. But it is a pain to take them off to wash, put them back on, etc. More casual skirted slipcovers can look "messy". I often see on blogs/instagram slipcovers that the skirts aren't hanging right, they need ironing, etc. But as I love cottage style, I do like the LOOK of slipcovers, they just aren't for me.
