GE Profile being updated - what should I do?
Comments (9)Olivertwist - I went to the GE website and looked up PT 7050. The Ten-Pass is the broil and bake elements that are coiled ten times or make ten turns from edge to edge of the oven. I.e. full coverage. By contrast, there have been complaints on this forum of other brands' ovens having the element covering mostly the center, so that things go uncooked if they are at the edges of the oven. E.g. a large baking pan filled with cookies where the cookies on the outside rows are not cooked at the same time as the cookies in the middle of the pan. GE is saying their Ten-pass elements prevent that. I think if your appliance guy had not found a replacement oven, you'd be here complaining how he left you with no oven. Much worse outcome than him finding you the newer model. Yet he just can't win. Also you are overthinking the matchy-ness of the OTR. If you are so concerned that the "eyelid shape" of the OTR doesn't match the non-eyelid shape of the new oven, get a different GE OTR. It doesn't have to be a GE Profile; I saw several OTRs on the GEappliances website that were not GE Profile, just plain "GE", that do not have the eyelid shape and would "match" your new oven. (and frankly I think the eyelid shape is kinda '90's.) Comments (16)Love the hide the TV art piece idea. And the chunky mantle would be wonderful. The sectional is about 4 feet away from slider. The room isn’t very wide. There is a step down into the living area from dining and main hall so if swapped sectional it would close off access to the room. Off of main hall. I am attaching other photos. There is a weird sink cabinet area in living (house was built in the 80s). I need to figure that out eventually. The end table is too big by the fireplace. I totally agree. We do need a small table there since it has our modem, cable box, security system and cordless phone on it and they can’t be moved due to wiring. As far as the pendant light goes. That was my original thought but instead choice a more practical idea with very large ceiling fan. Although the pendant light would look better design wise. This space had popcorn ceilings and no recessed lights And was bright yellow when we bought it. The kitchen and dining had track lighting. So we made quite a few changes but most of the changes went to our bathrooms....See MoreHELP! Our house doesn’t know what style it is-Tudor? French Eclectic?
Comments (18)Pseudo-tudor. They were building pseudo-colonial and ran out of money after they put in the brick. Thus the roof-shape, which is going in the pseudo-colonial direction, but with a generous helping of pseudo-English manor. The porch, however, is all-American. The door should follow on that theme and look bright, fresh, and gregarious (translate: "pop"). If it were me, I'd go all out hodge-podge: not white-out the tudor, not white-out the brick. Just freshen up the paint, clean out the trees right next to the house (but keep the huge ones in foreground and background 'cos they're worth a fortune towards the value of your house). Spend your money on making sure the upstairs window frames aren't rotted. You might want to be sure those branches aren't overhanging the chimney (where there might be a risk of fire). Make the side patio more enticing. Maybe nifty up the cement, barbecue and cafe table, or, if out West, a hot tub. Or is that your parking area? Heck, build a carport! If the brown grass is an unofficial pathway, make it official, looking like it's supposed to be there. Stepping stones?...See MoreWhat’s My Style? European Cottage, Old Farmhouse?
Comments (18)Who should you talk to when it comes time to build: Connor Homes Mill-Built Homes of Middlebury, Vermont!!!!! They build/ provide "New Old Houses" KITS... They have many home plans to choose from, and options... you could also throw in some timbers or do part of your home as post and beam construction... perhaps the center of the home where the family room and kitchen open concept design with a stone fireplace.... talk to them. They have been building and custom designing homes for over 30 years, I think. Your style seems to be a mix of early "New England Colonial American Farmstead"... because colonists came here mostly from England and Old European countries they brought with them their design and building methods and home layouts... central hall entrances, breezeways to the "barn" which is in modern days... the garage... They used post and beam construction, field stones, and bricks when available for the construction of residential homes... homes were built to withstand the inclement weather, so you found several chimneys and fireplaces throughout, because when it was cold, it was cold... candles were strung up from the beams to store them or while they were making them. etc. It's the small details that make the home, and your pictures depict to me a warm cozy, made from materials of the earth construction that this company was founded on. No, I don't work for them... but I wish I did... https://connorhistoric.com (where it all started) and now: Connor Mill-Built Homes - The Traditional Building Conference Series (traditionalbuildingshow.com)... Enjoy and Good luck! And to answer your question, yes... they will make a house for you in Texas! UPDATE, sorry just saw this... what a shame: Connor Homes closes its Middlebury shop - Addison Independent It may still be possible to buy a Connor Home from the company that bought them out. You'll have to do a little research if your interested. After you look at the homes on their site... you probably will be!...See MoreJessica Geerling
