Good repeat climbing rose for a arbor?
Comments (5)Gorgeous picture - though I would not know what to suggest. It certainly will call for most colours except red and it deserves, the best repeat bloomber you can get. I am sure somebody is going to come along with the perfect rose....but I just wanted to say what a beautiful spot that is! Comments (38)Dave, thanks for the great review on TGG. I was wondering how light of pink it would get. I have seen flowers on the web ranging from medium pink, light pink, to white lol. It probably will be lighter in warmer weather here like the rest of my Austins. I will probably get it in the fall or next spring. I will have to think of where I can put it. It sounds pretty and I love the flower form. I like that it starts out cupped and melds into a waterlily shape. It might look good with my The Ingenious Mr Fairchild with its peony shaped flowers. It is trying to be a climber here..slowly but steadily (own root). Helen your photos of Wedgewood are delightful! I can't wait to get mine. I have heard the shipping has started for my zone (9). Super excited! I think Wedgewood and SoF are going in large pots to start out. If they get too crazy I might put them in the ground later. I need to figure out a strong trellis and where it will go. I can only hope my Strawberry Hill will be as beautiful as your photos. It has only had a few tiny blooms thus far. It has skinny canes but is trying to climb. Its still an own root baby and I am impatient lol. At least she's healthy. ~Sjn...See MoreSprit of Freedom rose
Comments (86)Oh my goodness, Helen! I do believe this is it! Having searched even more images online, the shape and flowers look identical, as do the buds, and the scent sounds much more like what I remember. I am SO grateful, thank you!! Strangely I had never come across TIMF in any searches, including on the DA website, but then their images don't especially resemble the way they look on my neighbour's plant. Well, I am going to order one of these as soon as I'm back in London and ready to plant. Once it's established I'll confirm once and for all if you were right, but I can't see how it could be anything else. Thank you! And Sheila, I see you're in the Rogue Valley — so am I! What an amazing coincidence. Happy gardening to you all and thank you again Helen, you may never know just how happy you've made me....See MoreYour top 3 for an arbor
Comments (23)Mel’s Heritage would be great, but you’d need to do a lot of pruning to keep him from taking over. If you like pruning, he can be kept in check and still bloom well. Just remember, everything will get bigger than you expect. You can take a look at my climbers, and how old they are. That should give you some idea of how large some will grow. I have ALMD, Bubble Bath, Felicia, Poseidon (it wants to be a climber here), Mel’s Heritage, Cornelia, Crepuscule, Lady Ashe, and maybe some more that I’m forgetting. Don’t forget, some roses that you wouldn’t think of as climbers can be grown as climbers here. I prune some of my DA’s in January and again in late summer to keep them under control.
