Please help with flooring choice LVT
Comments (5)I'd go with the 5th one down, as it's not a wood grain, but has a bit of the tone that your kitchen floor has. I missed the top one on the shadow at first as it's so dark. I meant the 5th one down, and edited my sentence above. It and the lighter one below it look more like tile, where the others have wood grain and tones, and I'd want the 'wood' from room to room to match. I like the color of that one best with the existing floor, as it has some of the same tone....See MorePLEASE help with preparing wood floor for LVT
Comments (18)Rigid sheathing over the patch should do just fine. The height difference in the two floors isn't something you can help. If you feel that it is worth the effort and the price, you can ask him to stop and REMOVE the top layer of subfloor. Then ask him to REPLACE IT with NEW plywood. This will NOT change the roller-coaster waviness of the surface. That is inherent in the house. It will simply give you smooth "new" while keeping the two floor heights as close to even as possible. If the height variation upsets you, then you have two options: choose sheet material like sheet vinyl or sheet linoleum or rip out and rebuild the entire kitchen floor and *possibly the entire main level. My suspicion is the KITCHEN floor was raised to meet/match the other flooring. If that is the case, it is possible to remove the current plywood and then drop in slightly THINNER plywood. Again....this all hangs on the question as to whether or not the kitchen subfloor was raised to meet the other flooring. You are not allowed to go "too thin" with a subfloor. Most industry standards require (depending on where you live and how old the house is) TWO layers of subfloor that equal or exceed 3/4" total thickness. Sigh. It might be possible to drop the kitchen subfloor a snick. But the amount of money and effort it will take could be a deal breaker. It should have/would have been talked about BEFORE he started patching. And I mean WAAAAAAAY before he started patching. Like several WEEKS before he stepped on site. This would have been discussed because you would have CHOSEN your floor and discovered the difference and would have raised the possibility at the time. It's not too late...but then again you don't want to see his face after you tell him to rip out his work and start again...with new plywood, etc....See MoreNeed help with floor color
Comments (2)II would NOT rip hardwood to replace with LV anything. Sand and stain, and extend what you have. . the lower level ? that's the place for LV AND IT NEEDN'T MATCH YOUR FIRST FLOOR. Don't reMUDDLE you way out of your "parents house" into a fad of cheap....See MoreHelp!! I need your help with flooring color !!
Comments (15)Without seeing a layout drawing on how these spaces connect or flow together, perhaps you need to consider how the different floorings will connect if not the same height. Only saying because I hate the look of having transition pieces in open spaces that should flow together easily. Looks like your den, breakfast nook and kitchen all run together so these should probably be the same floor choice. Suggest you consider not having the cabinets control your flooring choice, with the idea you could save to have them painted later. Your furniture colors are beautiful and will be easy to coordinate accent colors, rugs, etc. later so I wouldn't worry about those so much. Flooring should enhance the permanent things in the spaces and blend with furniture, Before the new flooring is installed, consider removing all the wallpaper and borders and prime those walls. It will help you reimagine and see your wall and trim paint samples better to select those colors last....See MoreRoss
