Please help with paint colors - what white will match slate floor
Comments (0)We just bought a house and im really anxious to paint the kitchen. The oak is pretty but i really prefer the lighter feel of whites. I was thinking painting the cabinets BM white dove and possibly the wall colors BM Fieldstone (love Sally Wheat!) but im torn bc im not sure if these colors will look good with the granite counter tops, slate floor and backsplash. We are only going to paint right now so whatever i choose must match the exisiting floors and counters that are already there. Please help - would love to hear your suggestions!...See MoreColor experts, please help--what color should we paint our house?
Comments (18)Thank you! So much great feedback. Sadly, the paint job is a necessity rather than just aesthetics -- paint on the back side is failing pretty badly & peeling off in layers. (After reading up on the paint forum, I think it was just too many layers of latex on top of old oil paint without adequate prep.) Maybe we will keep it close to current color. I'm not sure what color it is, but I'll have to stop by the BM store and pick up a tab for Briarwood. I think those color visualizers are just a bit off, at least on our monitor -- Down Pour is a very smurf-y blue on my screen. Luckily, SW store is right down the street. Of the SW colors, we liked Mineral Deposit -- gray, but not quite so dark. Johnmari, my wife said exactly that about warm trim looking bad with cool gray field color. I just want to get away from the current ultrawhite, just tone down a bit but not too much. Shutters? I think we will someday, after we've finished the essentials. Of course, being picky, I don't want to just screw aluminum shutters that don't match window size on there, so might be a while given that real shutters & hardware are pricey. The suggestion about doing the sash black is good--that could look really sharp and make the windows pop a bit more until we can dress it up a bit more with shutters. Absolutely agreed on the landscaping solutions. Could be more varied and it would add a lot. THANK YOU for all your suggestions, such a helpful group & nice little corner of the internet....See MorePaint color help needed for small FL home
Comments (29)mamorella, Annie and nosoccermom: Thanks! I really do love the aqua. BTW I used encycolorpedia.com, which I read about on this forum, as a starting point with my inspiration photo, and it did lead me to the aqua I chose. The yellow door didn't work so well, and I ended up with lemon-lime colors. I tried to go more to the yellow side of the spectrum myself, but the color I chose does have a bit of a green tinge to it. So now I am going crazy with the yellow on the front door. The first row shows the current door color, which looks very creamy on the door. Then second row shows the yellows that are up one shade. I'm leaning towards yellow lotus because it is more towards gold than green. But I'm afraid it might be too much on the garage door and DH will kill me if I'm not happy with my 2nd choice since he will be painting. Any suggestions? I have searched for examples of the colors in rooms and not been too successful. And we did put up samples of the current yellow in multiple places on the house before painting and it looked great. But once it was officially on the doors, it looked just ok. Light and creamy instead of sunny and yellow....See MoreExterior Paint Color (Neutrals) Help for a small Stucco House
Comments (10)Green, Blue and Red are all out I'm afraid. The house was sage green when it was first built and it blended it with the surroundings too much as we are literally backed up against the wood with wilderness out our back door. My husband had it stuccoed then years ago and it came out an pale yellow color which wasn't what he thought he was getting. Now it just blends in with the cream color houses all around us. We need to not stick out like a sore thumb in this older neighborhood we are in, but yet give the house some visual clarity so its more easily noticed and stands apart from the neighbors with a darker tone. Red doesn't go at all with what we've done on the inside and isn't our thing, and while I love blue and use a lot of it inside with teals and aquas, we want the exterior to be a stronger neutral...maybe a mid to darker tone tan. I don't have access in this little town to SW or BM paint chips so am hoping to get some ideas for when we get into the city later this week and I will grab some paint chips then....See MoreFrances Eldi
