Rick - I see no damage in any of the quickwall items that were left outdoors. I just had a few that were supposed to hold water and 3 of those I purposely left out full of water so they would go thru the freeze/thaw cycles our winter offers. (gets down to -10 for a few days most winters but can also race up to 50 a lot of days) . They all did fine - still hold water all summer. My surprise is that they hold water at all. Why in the world would a thin walled quickwall ball hold water? I don't have much experience with any of this but the same ball made from concrete and mesh seems to leak like a sieve but the quickwall ball that is open to the weather has to be emptied after rains - I have left the water in it for weeks and it never leaves - it seems very waterproof to me. I hope to see a few cherries here on a small tree I planted last year. Its the sour cherry, montmorency type. Almost didn't come out of dormency until mid July, when it finally started to branch out and get more leaves. My dad was partial to bing cherries and right now, they do sell them, but they come from Chili. He decided to stew some in booze. He filled a jar with the bings and poured in some VO whiskey. They are still in my fridge and have remained there for well over 20 years now. No signs of any spoilage, and I would expect them to be quite mellow by now. Bings are nice for fresh eating, but not as well suited for canning or pie making, because they don't hold up as well as sour types.

I haven't been on the forums for a while so am a bit out of touch. I've been busy in the garden, but it is already 90F at 9am so am taking it in small doses today. I got carried away with purchasing and trading morning glory seeds this past winter and ended up like many of you with not enough fence lines to grow them on. I raise sheep and if they can get to a plant it is history! I made some trellises this year with refrigeration tubing rolled into a shape like a spring (about 6" in diameter) then inserted one end of the spring in the ground or pot and the other end in a section of copper pipe stood on end in the soil with the plants around it. The plants seem happy enough with this arrangement but it is actually a little short for most morning glories and they are overreaching the tops now looking for additional support from neighboring plants. Another idea that I tried this year is actually working better--I had a section of loose chain link fence that I could get anyone to take away for me so I used a bolt cutter to cut off the part where the wires are twisted together at the top and bottom freeing the wire to be twisted out of the fence fabric. They are perhaps 6-7' long. I tried various configurations in pots and ground using 3, 5, or 6 wires. I twisted the wire into the soil and wired the tops together making some teepee type trellises. The plants LOVE this wire and have almost no problem climbing the trellises. In some pots (smaller type vines), I pushed both ends of the wires into the soil and it makes a nice fat balloon shape that are very nice when covered with vines. My visitors have all been very interested and complimentary of these trellises/support systems You just can't get any cheaper than the salvaged fence trellises. I would bet that you could find pieces of this kind of fence at the local landfill or recycling center. Good luck, spiderwoman

The contractor part of me says it wouldn't be that hard to tear out the cornerbead and replace it with plastic, being I get paid for what I do, no matter what it is. Cut out the metal, stick in the plastic and mud it. But anyways... You may want to consider searching for a new contractor/handyman type, based on your recent experiences. If you have/had mold or mildew on the insulation, you may have other issues above the ceiling line. As far as 'cleaning' mold/mildew, you can really clean mold, you can only really kill with bleach or equiv. or remove the dryall. I recently had to do the same thing in my own house. I had noticed a bit of a sag in the drywall by a wall. After doing an investigation, I had discovered a condensation problem coming from my chimney that was probably going on since the house was built. I cut the drywall in that area and discovered a mold/mildew condition that was right under the ceiling joist, which I probably would not have discovered without doing my little investigation. You do not want ANY kind of mold or mildew in your house, it can cause or trigger a number of medical conditions(asthma,allergies,etc.) especially in children or the elderly. The room I was working on is for my new baby girl we have on the way. See the concern.... To answer your question of using the Bullzeye; any primer will slow the rusting process, but will not prevent it forever unless you find another way to vent the room to totally prevent any kind of condensation build-up(which, of course, is next to impossible). Being the skylight is boxed out,like they normally are, it will have the tendency to collect in that area. Even though I can't see the repaired area, I still stand by the not just spot priming thing I had said before. You will definately will see a difference. Keep in mind, this is your house, not the contractors. Unless you're okay with 'just okay', can't see it from my house in a snowstorm theories. Not to be mean, but I think you understand my point. That's why guys like me can go into a job and charge top-dollar, because I treat every job/house like my own. My company(and personal)creedo is do it once,...do it right.
