How to paint to ensure metal beams on celing do not get rusted?

My bathroom just had the drywall repaired. On the ceiling under the skylight, the original metal corner beams got all rusted. The drywall contractor took them all out and put on the new metal beams. They placed mud over the beam, but the corner of the 90 degree corner beams is still exposed.

Is it enough to prevent the new metal beam from getting rusted in the future if I paint one coat Zinsser Bulls Eye colo1-2-3 primer and two coats of Zinsser perma white? Also, Is it better to apply the primer just on newly mudded area or to apply the primer on the whole wall and ceiling before putting on two coats of paint? The original color is white, the new paint finish would be candlelight ivory or white.

Thank you very much.
