If you incorporate the existing garage closest to the house as a porch, then, if you add your two car garage with its door(s) facing the same direction as the door of the house -- not the direction of the existing garage door(s) , you could also extend the right wall of that garage several feet in front of the existing garage and create a shelter/overhang over the existing garage doors that lead to the front porches -- the one created from the existing garage adjacent to the house that could be connected to the smaller portico at the front door of the house. Driving in, you'd not even see the remaining garage door behind the new 2-car garage. You could connect the two garages with a door. If you like the style of your home ... if you want to keep true to the original design of your home, contact an architect to design your porch and garage addition. Putting up just any porch roof or even a smaller portico roof might not turn out as well as it could.

The door by the laundry in the first one would lead to a small courtyard in our side yard. We don’t need access to it but it’s kind of unused side yard space otherwise, so we could link to it and turn it into a nicer area. We do have a powder room in the other part of the house but it would be nice if this one could also be accessed by the main area (doesn’t need to be in the nursery). We have a king size bed, and ideally the nursery could eventually hold at least a full size bed if needed. The French doors lead to our backyard and we want them to be accessible without being in the master. The connection to the house is on the side of the kitchen by the pantry. It could potentially move east (up in the picture) but we’d have to reconfigure the pantry and a closet in the existing house. I’ll draw up another picture that shows what’s inside when I get back from vacation next weekend. Thank you for your help!

PPF yeah sorry I was a bit vague. The entryway looks weird to me and I need ideas for the treatment of the roof connecting the two masses. Was hoping for a mid century vibe and I feel like it could be improved. The other main concern is the long dark hallway leading into our house. It also seems weird but I see no way around it. Hoping for ideas. Finally hoping for some input as far as the siding - any recommendations for materials. Is the waterline of stone out of place and is there a way to tie the addition in architecturally so it doesn’t look like we just whacked a garage on. Thanks

It appears that your at your setback limits of the lot on some parameters. And there appears to be a significantly sized tree in the way. Nothing that an architect, lots of earth moving equipment and loads of money can’t manage to solve. But most don’t want to spend 150K on a garage.
