Why are Asko and Miele washer/dryer reviews so polarized?
Comments (46)Asko owner for 21 years. designed into a kitchen, as in Europe. They are quieter due to being used in kitchen, I find I can do a king size set of sheets, with 6 pillow cases quite fine. I dry my sheets separately since doing together has me doing another period. The high rpm of spins I like, has clothes dryer before drying. And some nice shorter cycles, a good cold water one, again so quiet you can eat in the same room and hear one another. I use a lot less soap powder , 1 Tablespoon per load, always the HE of any brand. I add 1 Tablespoon of Oxi-Clean also. some softener also. Very clean clothes. The looks, Great. mine are white, have it next to a Kitchen -Aid, white and wood cabinets. Now the down side. Replaced the set about 7 years ago, I think we just wore them out ! how 2 people need to wash so much. We have had several niggling things with the newer set, dryer is not out in the middle of the floor, belt wore out. Waiting for part. Ours are trouble because we designed them under a counter that supports a china cabinet, always needing to be unloaded because once the units are out there is no support for the above cabinet when fully loaded. In the process of redoing the bathroom to hold the Asko's, easier access if needed to work on. Note: I had a Maytag set (regular size) for 24 years with very little trouble. So, if they are not built in to make them difficult to extract and work on, they are really good looking....See MoreMiele Gas Dryer Recall
Comments (1)I purchased my unit in May of 2007 so it was part of this recall. Miele contacted me during the last week of March. I talked with them and they sent a tech out the next day. He used a gas detector device to check the fittings around the dryer as well as all of the supply lines even though they were existing and not part of the install. No leaks were found and nothing was wrong with the exhaust duct. He installed an additional fitting between the dryer and the gas line. Next he removed the top, sides, and front(this took almost 25 minutes because nothing slides together, everything is screw, nut and bolt) and inspected the entire unit and sensors while having the laptop connected to it. It has a very nice looking stainless steel burner :) He gave me a copy of the revised installation manual. The only difference I see is the addition of this fitting that fits between the dryer and the pipe and the instructions that repeatedly state that you must use two wrenches to tighten all connections. One to hold and the other to turn....See MoreMiele W4842 program/service menus
Comments (2)Greetings, Sshrivastava! I just checked both default settings; "Rinse Process" is set to NO and "Automatic Load Control" is set to ON. I believe there's a typo in the Service Manual regarding the Auto Load Control; it says in boldface "OFF: Not Activated" but it should say "ON: Activated". However, if some machines were in fact delivered with it set to OFF by default then it may have been a programming glitch at the factory. It makes sense to me for detergent test facilities setting this to OFF since it would then be much easier for them to control the water/detergent/fabric/soilage ratios because the machine then assumes a full load no matter what. Oh, I did in fact find the "Rinse Process" submenu item in the Service Manual; setting this to ON then causes the machine to gauge rinse effectiveness via the NTC thermistor (R30); I'm gonna leave this set to NO since I don't see any reason for it, given my current wash parameters....See MoreMiele Direct - Calling all Miele fans
Comments (69)What DW did the new Miele replaced. For example, on the other former 2 Mieles's in the same cavity, the holes were exactly the same spot on it's new replacement. On the new Miele replacement, the holes were smidge off. I can't recall if I ended up scewing into `new holes~ or did I tweak the angle and uses some toothpicks in the old holes to make it work... At the end of the day, as long as the machine is level , and with door on the correct plane both in Hortizonal/Vertical and Flush, those screws we speak about are just retainers, per-se The screws are not that long. I would say around 3/4 or 1" in length. It's not rocket scientist. With the DW level and flush, it should not move already with it's weight. The screws are there just to help keep the unit from ~walking~ due to vibration/in use, etc. CJ. Are you DIY handy ? If so, I would attempt to *reinstall* it yourself if a option. More attention to details than a installer possibly. It's really that simple. Level it out. Make sure front panel dool looks level against the 2 sides of te adjacent cabinetry. Open DW door to test level height. Then put the sidescrews in.....See MoreMark
