Inspired by writers or movies?

I have been on a bagel making jag lately. King Arthur has a streamlined sandwich bagel recipe that I like. It isn’t too daunting and makes great gifts. Visiting a friend - bring bagels. Step sister’s family quarantining with Covid - bring bagels. Visiting my mom - bring bagels. You get the idea. Last night I remembered Calvin Trillin writing about garlicky pumpernickel bagels. And somewhere I have an unread book a friend gave me about the spot where CT bought said bagels. Her connection to our early childhood in NYC is much stronger than mine - she stayed and my family moved to rural Maine. Anyway I am attempting to futz with the recipe to make the bagels have a garlic rye flavor. We shall see if I succeed.

Have you ever been inspired by food in writing or movies? I loved Babette’s feast both as a short story and the movie - but I think I would more like to attend than replicate that meal. Somewhere a friend read an incredible description of cassoulet which inspired a lovely dinner.
