Sounds like the tree is aborting fruit, which is not that unusual at all with a new tree. Combination of a young tree and some transplant shock. Not to worry, the fruits will most likely drop of themselves. I would just continue watering appropriately, and fertilizing appropriately. Give your tree a year or two to acclimate fully and provide you with a nice full crop of fruit. I will often remove all fruit on a new tree if I see it's struggling to get started. I want the tree to put all its energy into developing a nice, big, healthy root system that will in turn, support the development of a nice, big, healthy canopy. Hi, I live in Saigon where it is hot and humid. I have a kumquat tree in a pot on my balcony which I got at the end of June last year. It arrived in a black plastic sack and looked a bit sorry. I planted it in a largeish pot with fresh compost and it responded by growing loads of new leaves, and after a couple of months it was covered in flowers which filled the balcony with lovely scent. Then came the fruit. About six weeks ago the leaves turned yellow and a few dropped. The leaves have white/grey flecks, which are a leaf coloration and not mites or anything like that. About two weeks ago it started to flower again and now we have what looks like a sick tree with both flowers and fruit on it. I have attached a link to a pic of the leaf coloration (its in my drop box). Can anyone please advise how to make my tree healthy again? I have a great limequat tree and the fruit turn bright orange, very much like the kumquat parent. What a great fruit, mine blooms every month in the warmer time of year and we have fruit at least 7 months starting in november. I have just started several seedlings, my first seedlings from one of my trees. The Limequat I have is a seedling and it did not take long to come into bering. I think it is of the Eustis type. I use the fruit to make pie and marmalade as well as any thing were lemon is used, great flavor and unbelevable color. On some limbs there are so much fruit I use them for a garnish in our seafood market.

I am not a fan of mulching under citrus except for brand-new trees under our current stressful conditions . Citrus do not like to have " wet feet " and prefer naked sand around them . This is a really contentious issue among home owners but the pros do not mulch at all . Infrequent deep watering is best for all trees rather than a light soaking . I have yet to water my established older citrus even though we are over 30 days without a drop of rain . I am about ready to break down and water the heck out of every one of them . Some orange trees just turn yellow for no rhyme or reason . Do the best you can and that's all you can do except , try a rain dance for us all !
