Orange tree leaves turning yellow...
Comments (6)I am not a fan of mulching under citrus except for brand-new trees under our current stressful conditions . Citrus do not like to have " wet feet " and prefer naked sand around them . This is a really contentious issue among home owners but the pros do not mulch at all . Infrequent deep watering is best for all trees rather than a light soaking . I have yet to water my established older citrus even though we are over 30 days without a drop of rain . I am about ready to break down and water the heck out of every one of them . Some orange trees just turn yellow for no rhyme or reason . Do the best you can and that's all you can do except , try a rain dance for us all !...See MoreLeaves turning yellow and dropping, even new ones
Comments (5)*Based on my experience*, yellowing leaves are usually the first signs of stress (heat, drought, etc.). Make sure the pot provides its roots sufficient room to grow, then keep it very well watered & fed, several times a day as long as the soil is well-drained. Mist it on occasion as well; anything to keep it cool. Yours appears to be situated on the ground, but if the pot is on a deck, concrete or other heat-absorbing surface, place a piece of styrofoam underneath the pot to help prevent heat from being transferred to the pot. Brugs despise warm soil. I think if these things are covered yours will recover quickly and do quite well. I face this problem every year here in the heat & humidity of Alabama. Best of luck to you! Comments (8)They are usually pretty carefree plants. They do like humidity and will sometimes drop leaves if it is really dry like in a desert climate. If the soil is too wet (usually because the soil isn't draining properly) or too dry then they can drop leaves. Also, whitefly is sometimes a problem for smaller plants. Here, mine get up to the roof line of the house over a summer so insects are trivial problems to the large plants. In the winter, they die to the ground once it freezes hard. I pretty much water them a few times a week here and forget about them and they bloom in flushes summer through whenever it freezes here (usually late Nov). They do love fertilizer. I have them in full sun and semi sandy soil. They root very easily from cuttings. I just get a 1 gallon pot and fill with potting soil and take several cuttings about 8 inches long. I use a powdered rooting hormone but probably not necessary. I have also stuck cuttings straight into the ground without rooting hormone and kept them watered and they rooted. ~SJN...See MoreAll my citrus leaves turning yellow and dropping
Comments (15)Tropicofcancer, ok would horticultural oil have the same effect as the 3 in 1 organocide? You say its lighter so can that possibly mean less damage on the pests and they can possibly survive it? Also when you say alcohol, is it rubbing alcohol? I used a cylindrical tupperware and filled it with fir reptibark 5 times and then dumped in trash bag, then filled with sphagnum peat moss once then dumped in trash bag, then filled with perlite once then dumped in trash bag, then applied one teaspoon?(I forgot how much) garden lime and then mixed it all up in the trash bag. I repeated this same exact process until it filled the pot up where the citrus went in. During spring and summer I watered about once a week. I check the soil moisture by sticking my finger in as deep as I can and only water if its dry. It had super rocket fast drainage so no issues there. I am 100% sure I used the right dosage for it. It happened about 2 weeks after I sprayed it though. I don't have a greenhouse. I only sprayed this on my 3 citrus and thats it. I also sprayed it on my sedum which is planted outdoors. No problems there. What is safers soap?...See Moredredd422
