How much do frameless glass shower doors cost?
Comments (90)Ours was 3K, included all parts, glass, labor. The shower is a modified square shape a square with a slice off of one of the corners. Of course, that's where the door is. He really struggled with getting it all to line up. Mostly because the standard door wasn't the same size as the opening for it and there is an additional trim piece of glass beside the door. Looks great in the end, fainted at the price. Good to see that others are familiar with these kind of numbers. He did everything, measure, fabricate, deliver, install. They were very tall pieces of 3/8" tempered glass. It was no picnic for him!...See MoreHow wide a space between frameless glass shower door and glass
Comments (6)Good for you, you did not accept that and they are getting redone. If done correctly...you should (or can) get away with NO vertical plastic stops. I try to avoid anything that collects gunk and requires maintenance. I measure and order all my doors and the gap should be 1/8"-1/4". Anything over 1/4" is too much for my satisfaction. 1/2" is totally pathetic. When this gap is done correctly, you will find you do not need a plastic stop to prevent water from leaking out. If you use a sweep on the bottom, that will keep the door in place where it needs to be because it puts some drag onto the threshold. Measuring takes time, a lot of time if done correctly....See MoreKerdi'd Curb, attaching glass shower surround??
Comments (7)sballman1- It is now 10 years!! Still perfect and beautiful. yes, we installed the curb, kerdi around it, marble on top, and the only thing we did n't do ourselves was install the glass. they came and they drilled holes into the marble for the rail that the glass sat in. also same into the tile wall so the frame clips could be attached. nothing penetrated the kerdi on the curb if i recall. Maybe the wall? I truly do not recall, but i do think i stood there and used kerdi fix as they worked... that seems familiar. it all gets siliconed together so it really isn't going to go anywhere, although i still have a deep fear that I will slip and fall into the glass and knock it down, haha Ultimately you should discuss with the glass installers what their technique is. i would think there are so many more kerdi applications now, they should be fairly informed by now. good luck...See MoreWhere to install a shower glass door?
Comments (8)Well, I'm not an expert. But, the curb should have a very slight slope toward the inside of the shower. And then they put in a clear gasket, or a clear bead of silicone (?). Since I'm not a pro, I'm telling you what I see in mine. There are codes and practices for slope of the curb, and specific materials. When I interview shower door glass providers, I'd show them the other shower, and ask, How would you have done this differently? Also, you can put in search terms at the top bar above like "frameless shower leak" and read about the bad installations, so that you can prevent it happening to you. Frameless is done so often now, that I don't think of it as a leak risk. The real risk, as presented so often in these forums, is that waterproofing the shower was done incorrectly or not at all. Now THAT is an area where contractors take shortcuts. If I ever have a bathroom re-done, I'll ask a LOT of questions about the contractor's knowledge of waterproofing, what system they use, whether they are aware that I expect them to follow the codes and standards, and I'll be taking photographs of the materials and layers of the shower during prep and tiling, for my files....See MoreHU-785456157
