Remodel Project with wood windows - color of new slider/windows

Leslie A

We have an older home that has wood windows, most of which we are keeping. We are blowing out one wall for a dining room and installing large windows to capture a water view - the room will be 15' wide. In the living room, which is adjacent, we are installing a multi-slide door to a covered porch area. We are grappling with how to treat the existing wood windows and what color the new windows and new multi-slide should be. The architect says white drywall wrap or trim around the wood windows with black for the interior side of the multi-slide and new window products. I am concerned the black will be too stark and distracting.

Attached is a picture of our "mock up" of the window with trim painted white on the left side, and the trim and casement painted white on the right (like a drywall wrap.) The wood paneling is being removed and drywall installed. There are a lot of windows in this house and we cannot afford to replace them. Would love to hear thoughts as to what color to go with for the new products. Thank you!
