Will a weathered wood roof go with sterling grey siding?

Our house is under construction, the roof is weathered wood. The siding we picked isn't available so we want to go with a sterling grey. Do you think it would match?

When you write "weathered wood", do you mean wood that has been exposed to the weather?

No, the color of the shingle is called weathered wood.

Hi, What a cute little house! No worries, sometimes the coloring doesn't come out so well on the monitor and will look completely different in person. I can see why you chose the palette that you have though, it's exactly what I thought before I read your response. We have a 2 story colonial and the color of our siding is very similar to the color you have. We don't have any brick though, so we went with a Certainteed Roof in a medium toned charcoal color that has a touch of the brick color mixed in it. Without the brick the color looks great with the siding; our trim is all white as well. I almost think if you went with a lighter color on the trim it would offer a little more pop to the whole elevation. I know you didn't ask for this next suggestion but I think it would also look cute to have something flanking the door on each side. Usually people have lighting but if that's not possible, maybe you can hang some baskets on hangers or something. I think the brick just needs something more to help it blend in with the rest of the front. I love your landscape and how the gardens are layered with color. Very pretty.

Hard to say without a pic. I have a weathered wood roof with tannish- orangish bricks, SW creamy trim and SW tobacco doors/ shutters. Looks great but i had to get used to it after replacing a brown roof. Like this better as there are more door/trim/shutter color options now. Weathered wood is quite common in my subdivision so drive around and see what others have. Someone is likely to have a similar color scheme, even in ofher developments by the builder. Dont know where you live, but the roof is likely to fade a bit over time, so it wont always be that dark.

Congratulations on your new home! Weathered shingle houses are VERY common in my "stomping grounds" of eastern NH and eastern Maine. The shingles tend to go gray more often than brown around here, but we do see quite a bit of that distinctive mixture of browns ranging from almost golden-y to a bitter-chocolate color. Probably the biggest thing to pay attention to is the color value of the roof - the accent colors should be about the same value (meaning lightness or darkness) as the roof. If the roof is too pale for the rest of the house it can look a little like the roof is going to lift off and float away, if it's too dark for the rest of the colors it looks overly heavy, like it's weighting down the house (a very common problem). If your roof is light-colored, like the verdigris color that's pretty popular for green metal roofing, look to the lighter tones in the variegated shingles and riff off those for the color value of your trim. The accent color I see paired with this siding most often is a rich browny-red, which would look wonderful and not necessarily all Christmasy with the green roof. If you want to "perk up" any window sashes or other details with a lighter color, a very deep cream or even putty would look nice, but don't tart it up too much. Another color I've seen work really well a few times is a slatey blue, although the success of that would again depend on the roof. Check out the deeper blues in the BM Historical line like Hale Navy or Newburyport Blue. When we were househunting two summers ago we looked at a little bitty antique (very early 19th century) Cape Cod with weathered-brown shingles. It had white window sashes and wide board-and-batten shutters (completely operable) and board-and-batten front door were a moderately deep, muted blue-green color. The heavier trim around windows and doors was the same as the shingles. IIRC the roof was halfway between bark brown and charcoal gray. It was a real charmer but not in a great location for us.

I've chosen Weathered Wood for my new roof -- I have that currently and think it also looks good with all sorts of color schemes without looking too monotone with any. As I am trying to decide on new siding I am looking around the neighborhood, and seem to strongly prefer silvery light grays (like granite gray) instead of darker grays, but the trim choice makes all the difference and will be important with your warmer stone. Are you planning to stay with white?

Shingle looks nice close up but check from a distance with siding options. The shingle looks to be an earthy neutral with some greys in it so look at it next to the siding samples. I think house color will be more obvious than roof when looking at it from a distance. Looking at roof close up isn’t what you’ll see when it’s a big mass much higher up on home.

Depends on the look you want, how much roof is visible, lots of things. A photo of the build would help.

Looks like a taupe/grey roof which the sterling would compliment. Was grey the color you originally wanted? What other color choices are available? Will the siding be installed the same horizontal look on all sides or do you have options to use board/batten look on top for example?

Our original color was seagrass. I believe they will all be installed horizontal. Here are the available colors. All the ones marked N/A are a supply issue and natural clay is no longer an option.

Weathered wood is a grayish blend and should go perfectly with Sterling Gray Siding.

My sample (the very first one I posted) has so much brownish color in it that it's throwing me off.

Sorry you have to settle due to supply issue the seagrass is pretty. On my monitor the gray looks nice, and possibly the colonial white. Homes around you look like shades of cream so would be nice to do something different. Good luck!

It's a blend, get a bundle, do not judge off of a small sample.

Which brand of shingles are You talking about? GAF or Owen's Corning? I think the one You are showing I saw in person and yes, it had a lot of green and brownish.
