Living room curtains and wall art help for 10 ft ceiling
Comments (16)Thank you everyone for your advice. @BeverlyFLADeziner What makes this living room a playroom? I don't like the accordion blinds. If I had to choose between accordion blinds or no curtains, I would go with not having curtains. @d_gw It's a radiator on the left side. @kulrn we tried to arrange the living room furniture in different angles; however, given the room size and the open kitchen, this is the best way to arrange the furnitures. @...See More1940's, 10ft ceiling living room - need furniture help!
Comments (17)A couple of things strike me right away that throw the room off. First is the rug: It needs to be much much larger, and it should never be narrower than the couch. Second is to get longer curtains and hang them about a foot higher than they currently are. The art arrangement over the piano doesn't work; we'll remedy that. I like your fireplace and built ins. The shelves just need to be better styled--there are some good articles on Houzz to help with that, but basic rule is 1/3 books. 1/3 objects. 1/3 empty space--and I'd remove everything now over the mantel and use art. I suspect you can buy new furniture for no more than what it would cost to upholster yours, but that's a decision for you to make. I'll return later with a rendering of your room....See MoreCanned/recessed ceiling LED lights for 20-ft ceiling
Comments (29)I ended up putting in Nicor DRD 2" LED lights. Nicor does free assessments that I found very helpful. I've been very happy with the lights. I put in a 5x4 grid, so 20 lights. The symmetric alternate was 3x4 = 12. Knowing what I know now, I'd probably have gone with 12 instead of 20, I like having really low lighting in the evening, and never turn it all the way up. But I'm quite happy with what I did, too, and at the lowest setting, it's nice evening light. Although the LED lights don't draw a lot of electricity, because I have 20, they flickered with a standard Lutron dimmer, so I had to get the Pro model, and now it works fine...See MoreCeiling fan light kit or no with 22ft ceilings?
Comments (24)Did you ever make a decision on this? A fan that high in the room is going to want a remote control, so a light on the fan just gives you one more way to control the mood in the room with the touch of a button. So there is really no need not to limit your choices to only fans without lights. What's more important is the question: Do you want to feel a breeze from the fan? If you do, you should be using a downrod longer than 6' on a 22' high ceiling. Otherwise, it's likely your fan is just going to a decoration that spins, it won't provide much of a breeze, if any. Post some pictures of the room and I'd be happy to make some recommendations....See MoreD
