Get a wider lower T.V cabinet with a bigger TV and leave that wall alone. You are in need of some much better lighting too and some brighter colored rug and pillows to balance out the dark painting....See More1940's, 10ft ceiling living room - need furniture help!
Comments (17)A couple of things strike me right away that throw the room off. First is the rug: It needs to be much much larger, and it should never be narrower than the couch. Second is to get longer curtains and hang them about a foot higher than they currently are. The art arrangement over the piano doesn't work; we'll remedy that. I like your fireplace and built ins. The shelves just need to be better styled--there are some good articles on Houzz to help with that, but basic rule is 1/3 books. 1/3 objects. 1/3 empty space--and I'd remove everything now over the mantel and use art. I suspect you can buy new furniture for no more than what it would cost to upholster yours, but that's a decision for you to make. I'll return later with a rendering of your room....See MoreWall art for sides of 75in TV in living area
Comments (44)rosemarynjf I LOVE the way you held your own through the suggestions. Your white trim boxes are inspired and does just what you hoped, fills a huge blank nothing!! Good job. Glad you are keeping your antique asian table. It amazes me how seldom people are able to focus on the request of the OP and choose to redesign the entire home/space. When I first read your question I thought "shop your house". What do you already have that will work? What you choose has to be things you love--your taste not someone else's. Other wise the answer is to take your time. As you live life something will appear that you are drawn too and will be the proper pieces!!...See MorePlease help with living room decor! Comments (6)Balance: I’d skip drapes as a rod a few extra inches above windows won’t affect the ceiling/window effect. The tv is really high for viewing and I’d be bringing it to eye level. If interested and if room allows, can you turn sectional/console so they are facing windows and place tv there and art above fireplace. If keeping as is, add a huge piece of art between windows again to draw the eyes down into room. . Decor: suggest light textured blinds, a floor lamp and side table in corner with new chair to fill that space nicely and as a nod towards coastal, cushions, lamps and art will do the trick....See MoreLula Fl
