I think the fan would look better without a light.

I'd just be sure to locate and select ceiling lights that don't cause shadows to be cast by the fan blades beneath them.

You cant' effectively light ANY room with a 22 foot elevation, from the ceiling.. Actually, there is no point to a 22' ceiling, unless a hotel atrium : )

The house we walked through that was almost identical was lit just fine with 4 6in can lights 🤷🏻‍♀️. Their ceiling fan had a light; I just wasn’t sure it was necessary and prefer the look without, but I second guess any decision I ever make so I just wanted to make sure I wasn’t making the wrong choice. Thank you all!

Put a light on it for an accent If you like that. I had to use the pull down chains for power but you would get the remote control fans.

Any fan lights won't look like those because the OP's fans will be on 6' downrods, 16' above the floor.

Did you see how well lit was at night?...with just the ceiling cans?...in any case with ceilings that high i imagine you will mainly use lamps for actual activities at floor level ....and i agree that fans with light fixtures hanging down are not the most elegant ...

Yes we were there in the evening. They did not have any lamps. We were sitting at the dining room table most of the evening though. If I did a light it would be something clean and almost flush vs an actual fixture

Kichler makes a similar fan to that one, and it has a cap so you can opt-in or out to the light...personally on a fan like the one you posted, I like the light, and it might act as a good "night light" when you don't want to turn all the cans on.

That being said depending on how it is currently wired you need a remote or second switch to operate the light-independent of the fan.

Light should be layered and dimable. Cans can be turned on to see how to get into the room. Then dim them down and turn on the task lights (table and floor lamps) and the accent lights (art lamps, uplights under plants.) They are what gives a room ambiance and life. Otherwise, it can be a wash. If this is a new build, get a designer to help you lay out the furniture arrangement and have your contractor put floor outlets where they'll be used. You can also get battery operated lamps. If you do put a fan in, be careful about placement vs. the cans or you can get a strobe effect and migraines.

All good points from DECO....And be aware it is unlikely you will ever get enough light with only lights on a 22’ ceiling..

unless you don't read, pay bills, or do other tasks in that space. cans can provide plenty of light for finding your way around the room, conversing, and watching TV. people are so full of ultimatums.

Know that ceiling fans can only draw 48" of air from above the fan, so you will still have a couple feet of trapped heat. I tend to use 4' downrods with ceiling fans that have a LEAST a 16° blade pitch so it stirs all of the air around.

We have a really large great room with 12 ft ceilings. We also have 15 recessed lights in that ceiling. We thought we would not need the lights in the fans since we have recessed lights and table lamps. However, there have been numerous times that we wished for fan lights because the recessed lights are really bright. Plus the recessed lights make it hotter when used for long periods of time.

Can you put dimmers on the ceiling lights?...i think that is a better light source for low light situations than one light in the center..which may even cast shadows being only one central fixture

A fan that high in the room is going to want a remote control, so a light on the fan just gives you one more way to control the mood in the room with the touch of a button. So there is really no need not to limit your choices to only fans without lights.

What's more important is the question: Do you want to feel a breeze from the fan? If you do, you should be using a downrod longer than 6' on a 22' high ceiling. Otherwise, it's likely your fan is just going to a decoration that spins, it won't provide much of a breeze, if any.

Post some pictures of the room and I'd be happy to make some recommendations.

I misunderstood the ceiling measurements. We were there last night and they are 18 ft I believe. So not quite as tall, but still up there. I think I’ve decided just to get a fan with a light, that way it’s there if I ever want it. I personally like the look of them without the light, but it the big picture my house isn’t going to be a Pinterest house, it’s going to be lived in. With three kids so I’m going to let go of the look factor and go for function.
