Awww, Elizabeth has a button eye! I wonder if the light pink blooms are fading to white without getting that brownish tinge that unfortunately happens.

Helen, have you seen the new Carruth rose, Forever Amber? I love the limited photos I've seen, and will be seeing this rose in person as a five gallon nursery plant tomorrow at Edwards. I thought I might really want it, though, as usual, space is tight. But now I've seen the photos of Bring Me Sunshine--oy. Bring Me Sunshine has "It". By the way, Edwards removed your photo of Bathsheba (?) quite a while back. Someone must have mentioned it, but I still think Edwards was innocent of harvesting photos off the internet. Diane

Does anyone know what the differences might be between Elizabeth and Emily Bronte? To my untrained eye they look almost identical.

They do seem similar, but Emily Bronte is more defined on the edges, less fluffy edged... clearly i do not know the appropriate terms!

To me, Elizabeth has a looser petal structure.

Even though I love Bring Me Sunshine, I've seen Hoang Ton's latest video of Double Easy Orange in its second year. And I really love than one, too. And Jackson & Perkins can now to ship to Idaho, and I'm on the waiting list for DEO. I hope Austin hurrys it up on making BMS soon. Decisions. Diane

New Lizzy DA rose: it's gorgeous, much brighter pink/peach in real life, very cheery rose. Repeats REALLY well. Fragrance is medium so far but will see how it goes. Buds are really large and cute. The main downside - the blooms shatter in a day or two, but there are lots of them which compensates. It's very bushy, but healthy so far.

A funny thing - it loves to give you simple flowers (no button eye) during the second flush( checked with Gardener Ben - he had the same experience). A good rose for those who got plenty of space... I love it, but can't explain really why:)

I know that Nye Bevan is not new in England this year, but it is to us here in the USA. I find it is also very healthy, repeats continually (and I live in Texas with months of 38°C), and the flowers don't last long. From what I am reading, these traits seem to be a pattern with the new roses.

'Elizabeth' didn't last long with me, I got rid of it in July... pity, after a promising start I found the blooms short lived, and they don't shed cleanly.. the scent just wasn't there much either. The somewhat rugose foliage I also found unattractive, despite liking it initially..

Very similar rose to 'Imogen'.. not sure which I preferred, neither had lasting blooms..

These are quite pretty though and flowers with some abundance, and quickly repeating..

Can be pegged down, even quite young shoots..

I grow Bring me the Sunshine and I like it, the blooms last longer than Elizabeth(around 4 days for me), it's quite floppy and vigorous but in a good way, can be a large statement shrub if you give it space. The only downside IMHO is the scent - i'd call it strong but it's one of those myrhh medical scents that not many of us enjoy - similar to Wollerton old hall and Gentle Hermione.. It's not for everyone i think...

Quick update: The chat feature on David Austin's website is the UK version. There is no longer an option to chat with a human due to the US center being understaffed. Also, they no longer accept add-ons to an existing order. So, if you don't want to pay double shipping, you may want to order all your roses at once.

I think this is unfair towards their customers. Bluestone Perennials can combo ship, why can't DA? I have an unfulfilled bare root order from this Spring that never shipped and I was not able to add on to it.

I also think David Austin US and UK employees are completely kept in the dark about everything. I have contacted both US and UK to ask if and when any of the new roses will be available and was told they will not be available for 2024 shipping, but Bring Me Sunshine is magically now available. I absolutely love DA roses, but their company practices leave much to be desired.

So I went to the David Austin site to start my order. Earlier this summer I had checked out their roses and I’m pretty sure that Lady Emma Hamilton and Jubilee Celebration we’re both scheduled to be back in stock in 2024. So I was hoping they would be available for preorder now, but no, there’s only a place to sign up to be notified when it’s back in stock. Still there are quite a few on my list that are available for pre-order.

I got an email notice that Jude was back in stock, checked and I saw both it and Jubilee available this morning but I had meetings and was going to order over lunch. Now it seems both are already out of stock!

Sharon z8b Texas I chatted with DA a few months ago from their US website, and I was patched over to the UK! It astounded me. Later, I emailed a major complaint and the general manager actually called me. He was very nice on the phone, but was non-comittal about everything. In general they are fine, but I think they must be drowning in work and not enough employees or something because the ball keeps getting dropped.

Down to 33 bare root varieties available on the DA website from 58 this morning and I no longer see Bring Me Sunshine available or a few of the others I was looking at like Munstead Wood. Guess I should have made that lunch time order after all!

It will be interesting to see if they will bring in more stock or not because at this rate they will be sold out by the time the weekend is over

Moved from my phone to my laptop and now there are 128 varieties available, including Bring Me Sunshine and Munstead Wood. Still no Jude which is all I really want (had to leave my first one behind when I moved) but now I wonder if they are releasing product in waves or if I just had some weird glitch going on.

@Sharon z8b Texas thanks for the recommendation! I had seen Garden Roses mentioned here before but hadn’t taken a look. At the prices they are offering roses at I figure it’s worth taking a chance so I ordered AUSjo along with AUShunter and TANgust which were also on my wishlist. I also have a cutting of my previous Jude that just put out a leaf so fingers crossed and maybe I will end up with two!

I did decide to put in an order with DA for Munstead Wood and some others but I decided to pass on Bring Me Sunshine despite really loving what I see in the pictures. I have a strong aversion to some of the myrrh scents and based on other comments I should probably try to smell it in person before spending the $40.

I took a chance with them also a few months ago when I first read about them here. I ordered AUSsaucer (Evelyn) and AUStijus (The Ingenious Mr. Fairchild).

I rooted a few cuttings of AUShunter earlier this year and they are out performing the grafted mother plant by leaps and bounds. But please take this with a grain of salt because they are still in pots and the original plant is in amended clay soil.
