Why do my two blue spruce trees look different?
Comments (11)picea pungens are seed grown ... of every 100 seeds.. you might get 60 green ones ... 39 blue ones ... and one super blue ... in theory.. they are all different based on genetics ... its all in the seeds most super blues have been named ... and if you want that super blue one.. you buy that named variety .... and they are all exactly the same.. because they have been grafted ... vs seed grown ... so that is why they are different. ... now.. if we presume.. that a tree is twice as big underground as above ... then you can understand that 90% of the roots were cut off your 6 footer ... it should be rather understandable.. that it may not flush out new growth as heartily as it might otherwise ... and i smaller transplant ... will be proportionally less effected .. i would give them about 2 to 3 years to re-establish their root mass.. before i would start worrying about them.. your only goal.. is to get them to live... so.. its possible they may never look exactly the same ... if you care to post a pic of the other... then maybe they can compare .. below is a specimen of picea pungen Hoopsi .... planted from one foot tall .. allowed to grow naturally.. rather than shearing it into a xmas tree form ... i would suggest you forget about them being twins of each other as to form.. and just let them do their own things .... ken...See MoreSame color looks different on different walls. HELP!
Comments (11)I'm kinda shocked people don't "Get this....."!!! The walls WILL NEVER look the same! If you put a gallon in the middle of the room, & turned on a "magic spinning shaker" to evenly coat everything, & then went away for 2 weeks........ Even tho' we know it IS the same "Film of Paint" EVERYWHERE, every "Plane" of color appears different!!! We know the answer why folks! * HUMAN eyes do a lot of "Blending". * Some walls only get half the light relative to it's neighbor. * Color-temperature of Lamp bulbs could be way different than natural sunlight. * Flatter-sheened paints will show a color differenty than a Gloss will. * We KNOW colors will look different in a N-facing bedroom, relative to a S-facing one!! Remember back in High-Scool when in some Science classes.......you'd stare at a shape for a minute, then look at a white wall?!!?!!? >>>>> A completely NEW color is now visible?! 😲🤓🤓🥺 >>>>> What created that new color ......😁👁️?? Comments (12)Thanks for the input! It is somewhat of a subfloor, but there is one more layer beneath this wood and the joists under the house. We can't put another wood on top, because it is already sitting higher than the oak in the dining room, so there would still be a threshold needed. And we really don't want any type of linoleum back in the kitchen. We went ahead and stained the wood this weekend, and it already looks fantastic. If we didn't have the oak right against it, we would have kept it natural with just a gloss coat to bring out the red and the old plank character. But we thought two natural woods might clash, so we went with a dark Jacobean stain. Will post a pic soon, once we get the threshold done, and everything looking clean. Thanks again! It's always nice to have second opinions...See MoreOpen floor plan, can I mesh two different colored crown moldings?
Comments (0)I am in the middle of a whole house reno. I wanted to paint the kitchen cabinets and the attached crown gray, but the kitchen opens to the living room, which will have white box paneling and also white crown like the rest of the house. There is a corner where the two rooms meet (a recessed bar niche between the living/kitchen. I don't love the idea of two colors of painted crown meeting up, is there a good way to do this? Or does anyone have a picture of a similar situation? I have seen stained cabs/meeting with painted and that looks ok but two different paints seems like a bad idea. I can't seem to find any photos of this situation. Kitchen is the the right, bar niche to the left with the pretty white pipe running through it, living to the far left. (Dining is through the cased opening with window) My current thought is to do the bar area cab/crown white and extend the white over the tiny bit of wall between that and the kitchen. Then the gray kitchen cabs would start on that wall to the left of the wires. Thank you!...See Moremxk3 z5b_MI
