Can't live with my living room...Layout help please?
Comments (12)justgottabme: Yes! excellent plan! The Tv needs to be in that corner next to the fireplace -- either mounted on the wall or sitting on a console or cabinet. Having a cabinet in that spot would anchor that whole corner. And more excellent ideas above too! Love the idea of bookshelves in each of the corners -- perhaps just try basic Ikea Billy shelving -- or other build-it-yourself shelves (try stores like Targer or Walmart)-- just to see if that plan will work for you? Or look for vintage shelving or bookcases on your local Craigs List! Swivel chairs can be found -- check your local Craigs List! But for now -- once you move the TV -- try placing one sofa facing the fireplace -- and another one facing the window -- forming the classic L-shape....See MoreLiving Room Layout - Advice Appreciated
Comments (6)I, personally, have never seen a corner fireplace that I liked, lol, so my vote is to either keep it at Position #1 (especially if your architectural style works with a front-facing chimney, like Tudors), or center it along the wall that connects #2 & #3 (and flank it with windows). And just so you know my bias upfront, I just looooove floating twin sofas facing each other, with the fireplace centered in the room. :-) But I also dislike TVs competing with fireplaces, so that may or may not work for you. Edited to add: As for the ceiling, without knowing what the rest of the house looks like, both inside and out, I wanna say I'd go with 9'. Only do a tray if it is consistent with your home's style of architecture, is my other thought. :-)...See MoreFive doors in a small kitchen any layout help would be appreciated
Comments (23)Benje, I may be able to fit a small banquet for the kids in the corner between the toilet wall and the exterior wall. Thanks more things to think about while my DH is under the knife ;) I prefer kitchen dilemmas to medical worrying :) . i can cover tha rads with counters or creative cabinet boxes there just needs to be air flow to the room. My GC is pretty creative so hoping to better utilize those dead ends now I have small shelves over the rad by the basement door and a butcher block over the back door for the kids to use when "helping" in the kitchen....See MoreDifficult living room layout cant place tv.HELP!!
Comments (11)I'll second the articulating mount for above the fireplace. It's your best solution IMO. Pull it down to watch TV and push it back up when you're done. I have my tv over my fireplace and I've found it very comfortable to watch. But we have it mounted low and angled downward, and our seating area is ~14 feet back so the angle isn't at all uncomfortable. Without seeing a pic of your actual space with measurements (how deep is that living room?) it's hard to know if your seating area will be far enough back to be comfortable without an articulating mount - but I can promise you such a mount eliminates any potential problems....See Morechampcamp
