Hi everyone! Need a living room design with temporarily keeping this couch for now (we will get rid of it one day, just $$, not today). Open to new rug, tables and NEED a media console. Not a lot of room to work with. Tv wall is 12 ft wide and prob from tv wall to the column is between 13-16…so almost a square space, but not quite. Pics attached (don’t mind the mess) —- and a potential media center pic?? Also need creative way to store blankets for the couch :)

Front door of house! That’s why this room is so important lol (first thing you see when you walk in — besides kitchen)

Will you be keeping dining table and couches for a while, as you mentioned you will be replacing? That will dictate suggestions for lighting, etc and even ideas for a better possible layout. https://blog.modsy.com/home-design-tips-guides/layout-guides/living-and-dining-room-layout-designs/ If replacing shortly, if you could provide more details in regards to your taste, needs, and style. Either way, could you provide better pictures of the whole space and what your plans are with the furniture. Repainting, if you go that route, should be the last decision.

Ah the joys of NYC apartments... that said you have a good amount of space. However I think you have too many pieces for the space or not quite the right scale/size. Do you really need a dining table and desk, could you downsize to one for dual purposes? Would definitely move the larger sofa into the living area. Is that where you watch tv? is that what is mounted on the wall? Do you need the three chairs and velvet sofa? Do you need the various end tables that seem too big for the space? Why is there a mirror randomly placed in the LR? For the bedroom area, do you have any closet space or shelving? Could you add an ikea cabinet to give you storage options to visually streamline things? Or add a shelving unit as a divider at the end of the bed so it makes the bed space separate and again gives you some storage/display space for your things. Could place your printer and office requirements here. Could you move the desk into this area? If adding the shelving to block the view of the bed, could make using it as an eating area not as awkward for guests. Or add a curtain from the ceiling to divide.

Is the Floor Plan Creator app a good one to use to do a floor plan? I've never had construction done or really cared enough to get a more functional room. But with having a new space made now is the time and opportunity to design a room that works for all of our needs. We have a 4 and 6 and a half year old. I could probably decrease the amount of toys that they have now and maybe move some to other areas of the house. But definitely still have a play kitchen in there and a few other toys. Once I get the floor plan together I'll definitely post it here. Thank you very much.

Thats a pretty great couch to get ’stuck’ with, its neutral and modern. So many times there are crazy pieces of furniture that are asked to be worked around. This should be a piece of cake for this crowd. Im following.

Here's a chart to help with TV. Credenza under it should be 25% wider than the TV. Do a bit of measuring before shopping. You have a good layout and don't want to put TV in the traffic lane.

Consider a pair of dimmable floor lamps flanking the TV.

There is a what looks like a four foot section of wall behind your sofa (near the opening to your dining area). I have a bookcase sort of piece of furniture in my living room that has two drawers on the bottom and then glass enclosed shelves above. I fold up the throws that are on my furniture because of our cats and put them in the drawers when people come over. I got this piece of furniture from PB. That was almost two years ago - it might be discontinued, but maybe this will help you with an idea for stashing the blankets. A storage ottoman instead of coffee table would work too.

What isn't working about your current tv stand? Do you prefer a lower one about the same size or do you prefer a giant wall-size structure with a cutout for the tv?

One side of the room looms heavy with dark furniture while the other side has a light sofa (nice one, btw) and negative space behind it. I suggest a glass coffee table to balance and visually open things up a bit. Wayfair has a ton of budget-friendly options.

For blanket storage, you could place a decorative ladder behind the sofa where the mop/broom handle is.

I would look at Besta from Ikea for awall of TV storage and maybe even a bit of display on the wall where the TV
