Miele Speed Oven or Miele Steam Oven
Comments (15)Fortunately, I have a relatively large pantry (vs. a much smaller kitchen). So when I got the Miele Speed oven, I just moved my old Sharp microwave and my ancient, beloved, toaster oven into the pantry. Now, about 8 months after the remodel, I still use the toaster oven for toast, having never even tried to toast in the Miele. And the pantry's microwave gets used to do something quick (like melt butter) while the Miele is pre-heating, or baking, or whatever. Though these things only happen occasionally, its been often enough that I haven't seen my way to tossing out either old oven. The drawback, of course, is that there are 5 ovens in my little kitchen/pantry area, which seems excessive. And I suppose the pantry has less counter space for canned beans or whatever... As for the Miele's combination mode, I've only begun to explore this by using it to reheat things like casseroles -- Alton Brown's "Cauliflower Say Cheese", last night. Master Chef expects me to know how much these things weigh, which is a struggle, but last night's guess turned out just fine. Oh yeah, if you select Defrost mode, the Miele speed oven will heat in the range of 75 to 125 degrees. This setting is useful for cooking "raw" foods at 104. I did think about a steam oven as well, but there really was no way to fit it in there....See MoreBuying Miele Range & Combi-Steam. Would you also buy a speed oven?
Comments (11)I had the exact same dilemma as the OP. We opted to go with the speed oven over a regular microwave which is located under my combi steam. We also have the M touch wall oven with moisture plus. With the two of us - we use the speed oven quite frequently in conjunction with the combi steam as it heats quickly and has full oven capability. This allows us to avoid heating the large oven for just one dish. We have used the speed function a handful of times and it works well but speed cooking is not something we have a need for at this point in our lives. I can also use it as a "warming" drawer if needed. It depends on your budget and if you want to spend the extra $$, but we are happy we went with the speed instead of a microwave....See MoreMiele Speed Oven versus Microwave with existing Steam Combi
Comments (13)My Miele SO allows you to set the micro timer up to 10 mins per operation. That should be sufficient for most needs. I had a very intermittent issue with the micro function. (3 times in 16 months). It only happened to me once in month 16 where I saw the error message the other two times my daughter was using it. The error resulted in the oven restarting and all was good so not a show stopper as far as function. I called MIele and asked what the error was. They told me it was an expensive repair and since was I "slightly" out of warranty (1 year - did not purchase the 5) they would repair it free as a one time goodwill which they did. I was very pleased at the service. I use the oven almost daily as a small oven and it works as well as my combi steam in the non steam modes. It is a great small oven....See Moremiele speed oven AND xxl combi-steam placement
Comments (3)In my previous house my Mieles CSO XXL was placed under the counter in the island. I didn't have room for it anywhere else and I was able to use the water supply and drain from the prep sink next to the CSO. I was happy to have the CSO, but didn't love the low installation height. In the house we built this year I went with the Miele CSO XXL again and this time installed it in the wall with a Miele coffee machine above it. The CSO height was determined by how high I could place the Miele coffee machine and have that also be comfortable to use. The top of my CSO ended up at 41". I'm not that tall, so that is a comfortable height for me to place things in the CSO. Got a plumbed unit again and was able to connect to the drain and water line of the laundry room sink on the other side of the kitchen wall. Plumbed is the way to go. I use the soak/rinse cycle after nearly every use, to keep the CSO clean, and having it plumbed means that all I have to do is press a few buttons and the CSO does all the work. No filling or emptying water containers. As far as steam, that should not influence where you place the CSO. No different that a regular oven. When you open a very hot oven, either in a low range or higher on the wall, you will get a blast of heat. With the CSO you will learn to open the door slowly, take a step back and not stick your face over the door! Not an issue and humans are capable of learning quickly! :-)...See MoreModernAdobe
