Any opinions about going against rules of mixing knobs and pulls?

Since my kichen will be white cabinets, white backsplash and white quartz countertops I wanted to break it up a bit by using both knobs and handles ( same brand and color) . I just want to do some of the cabinets in knobs (the ones over the refridgerator and wall oven and a lazy susan and for the rest of the cabinets I want 6 inch pulls and 9 or 12 inch pulls for the wide 36 inch drawers. Will having both knobs and 2 different sized pulls in the kithcen make it look weird or is that okay? I've looked at a ton of photos of kitchens w/ both but usually they do ALL cabinets knobs and ALL drawers pulls. If you have an opinion I'd love to hear it. (Idk if it matters but my hardware will be Top Knob in honey bronze. Thanks.

Of course you can use both knobs and pulls, or not. It is a personal choice, just like wearing jewelry. I chose all pulls for a streamlined look, when I had my kitchen renovated. Best of luck in your journey.

It is not uncommon to have knobs on cabinet doors and pulls on drawers. I don’t know about mixing it up more than that - might look disorganized. you could draw it to scale and see what you think.

Knobs on doors with pulls on drawers is fine.

If functionally some drawers need larger pulls, then you should get larger pulls for those drawers.

If you go with knobs on doors and two sizes of pulls, I would definitely use the same metal for all of them.

Without knowing the composition of your potting mix used (before and after), watering frequency, possible micro-climate and growing conditions (and sheltered or open), and the tomato variety in question, it would be hard to begin to postulate properly or know for sure. I really don't think Al's potting mix is the answer for preventing watery-tasting tomatoes since both watery-tasting and non-watery-tasting tomatoes not of Al's mix can be grown hydroponically, in both covered and exposed self-watering containers, and in heavy as well as well-drained soiless mixes like the experiences justaguy2 and I shared, for example. Moreover, I believe one gets a better and realistic feedback from the observable frquency or schedule one needs to water one's tomatoes before the plant wilts in actual growing condition during an active season (in your case I'd imagine based on the timing of your question) than from a particular potting mix because the same identical well-drained potting soil may be too dry or not well-drained enough under different growing conditions including whether the tomato plant is growing under shelter or not and how much direct sunlight the plant is getting. I believe what you were told and maybe the improved results you suspect you are getting are similar to what I read about watery-tasting for certain species of strawberries. Temperature change and the frequency and the timing of watering and fertilizing during the fruit formation period are more primary suspects than potting soil assuming you were using some kind of soilless mix. I'll keep an eye out for answers if you want to offer more detailed information I reflected above or about your gardening practices and relevant growing conditions surrounding the watery-tasting tomato plant(s). Do you have one or several watery-tasting containerized tomato plants, and how do their growing conditions or your care of them differ if any.

Going against the grain PURPOSELY? Or because there wasn't any choice (money/space)? Most things about my kit would not be recommended on here, but I didn't really have any choice as I wasn't spending $50K+ or totally moving all the walls around. [as palimpest noted above] So for most of it I can't really say, "I went against the grain!" Two things I COULD have done different but CHOSE not to: 1. Kept My Peninsula. Thought about it intensely, everyone IRL (didn't ask on here) said change to an island, but I just don't like islands. I still like my peninsula! :) I think this is MORE against the grain than all the skinny islands with narrow aisles. Most people, it seems to me, do anything to have a island in any size. 2. Ornate c abinet doors with applied rope trim, painted white with pewter glaze. This look is often referred to on here as "dirty". Was also advised to take down the wall between the kit and DR (IRL, not on here) by friends. But I LOVE my formal DR so I did not. So maybe that too? I didn't actually ask for or get advise from this forum as I found it too late. But it did get me to do ONE thing, which I did "wrong"! After seeing photos of MW drawers in islands I decided to put my MW below the counter, and created an open shelf for it to sit on. Love it there. Found out long after those were DRAWERS I had seen and they opened from the TOP. LOL! I still think it's hilarious I had NO idea what I was looking at. Never saw a MW DRAWER before. I stop back here because it's interesting to see how different people change their spaces. Befores and Afters are always fascinating, no matter what you do.

I have shaker cabinets too (white) and went with the Amerock Mulholland pulls for drawers, knobs for cabinet doors. I went with 96mm pulls on the 15 & 18" drawers, 128mm pulls on the 24" and larger drawers. The 96mm ones looked too small on the bigger drawers, and the 128mm pulls looked a little crowded on the smaller drawers (especially because of the shaker stile/rails all around the drawer fronts).

Uh-oh. I spent my morning looking for pulls like the first one pictured. I have accidentally bumped into trendy (again!) without meaning to. Our 1936 house came with glass knobs and window pulls that look like the RH stuff and I was hoping to pick something similar for our new kitchen/addition. From what I can see, lots of manufacturers produce similar pulls, usually called window lifts, sash pulls or utility pulls. Some are cheaper coated zinc but the better and more expensive ones are solid brass and can be found plated in different finishes, which varies by manufacturer. You need to try different search terms to find them online because different manufacturers call them different names, but generally they are intended for window hardware, not kitchen cabinets, so if you look at a manufacturer or hardware site under a cabinet hardware subheading they won't show up. So far I have found similar pulls made by Baldwin (solid brass), Samuel Heath (UK), Schlage (solid brass), Croft (UK), Ives, Rocky Mountain, Merit Metal (solid brass), Brass Accents and Deltana (solid brass). One of these may be the actual manufacturer for RH. Some are less expensive than RH, like Schlage and Ives, some are similar, like Baldwin. I don't know why Deltana is so pricey but maybe somebody else can shed light on this company and why it charges more. For the larger sizes, look for what are called cabin door pulls. Merit Metal has some great looking ones, though not cheap. It seems like hardware meant for marine use has to be sturdier, so I have found some great-looking hardware at sites selling to boat and yacht owners (cool lighting for bathrooms, too). I haven't gotten to the glass knob matching yet, so if anybody has done research on those maybe we can start a different thread.

I read your post again and it sounds like you want to use knobs for a few doors and pulls for the rest of the doors. if that is correct i think you should use one for all doors.

Much of the decision is based on your home and your style.

My home is minimalistic, MCM. I have not yet renovated the kitchen, but will have slab doors and drawer fronts and brushed chrome cylindrical pulls.

My sister is my polar opposite. She has both knobs and pulls in her kitchen with raised panel doors and they are each either unique or a unique pair of decorative knobs. It fits with her eclectic mix of Industrial, rustic, Queen Anne antiques and a touch of whimsy.

There are no rules that say you have to do one thing or another, but I think my pulls would look odd in her home and her knobs and pulls would look odd in my home.

Suki mom, yes it was that i didn't want to put ALL knobs on upper cabinets just some. I was concerned about it looking disjointed and it just might if I do that. thanks. Jennifer I laughed so hard to hear the extreme opposite of you and your sisters style. I am definitely not the unique ecletic like your sister. I just didn't want my kitchen to look too sterile.

I think both knobs and pulls on doors can work, because we did it! Have knobs on the top smaller lesser used cabinets of same size, but did pulls on larger doors and drawers. Same style and color.
