Coming out of left field here with some questions. Your U-shaped kitchen with peninsula is one of the most efficient working kitchen layouts for small kitchens.

--Do you need new ivory cabinets? It looks as if that's what you have. If they're in good shape, then keep them for now or do what Beth suggests: reface them and add new hardware.

----The peninsula is a good use of the space and won't require change of flooring. Add some pendents that coordinate with dining pendant--change both?

--Kitchen flooring is fine with ivory.

--Get light colored new countertops and plain ivory backsplash as Bev shows.

Paint all your walls the same ivory as the cabinets. That intense color in the entire space is too much and is bringing down the space. You could have a light airy kitchen and dining space with change of wall paint color. Leave the kitchen floor and dining floor as is. This may sound nuts, but since there are so many supply chain issues right now, how about getting a great paint job first before you invest in renovation? You may find it easier to make decisions on the whole space.

make sure you do a counter depth fridge. and if there isn't a panel surround it, have one made by the painters. it's simple enough to do

all new cabs, countertops, backsplash, and appliances for 15K? you should do some research and increase you budget. you don't have enough for what you want. ( you could do some of the work yourself and save a few thousand. demo, shopping around for bargains, tiling. )

if you plan on keeping that foor tile, have it professionally steam cleaned, and then use a product like Grout Renew to lighten the grout joints. it will make it look cleaner and brighter.

I don’t mix whites in the same room: it’s either white-white or creamy-white, not both. If you don’t have one, I would put a large rug under the dining table. If the rug is at least four feet wider and four feet longer than the rug measurements, you will have enough room for chairs on the rug, even with people sitting on them.

While we're in pandemic times and supply chain mode, consider doing your paint job in ivory--primer then topcoat. If you need to do touchups and another coat after cabinets come in, you've already done most of the painting. Also Beth's idea for the floors is a DIY project you could do now.

I don't think you can get new cabinets, backsplash, and appliances for $15,000 but you can try! Definitely the peninsula stays. Check Ikea for new cabinets and affordable countertops. Check Habitat for Humanity Restore for cabinets and appliances as well as Craigslist. Good luck!

You don't need to make a final decision yet, but certainly repainting in ivory or white and spiffing up the kitchen floor per Beth is something that woudl give your kitchen/dining space a beautiful lift right now--very neutral background for what you decide down the road. Then see where you are. We're all spoiled by the home shows that transform spaces in a week--not realistic.

Those cabs are pretty ratty looking. I agree, time to get new.

Sometimes, you can luck out w/craigslist. I've seen 3 yr old kitchen (really nice cabs) w/granite, sink/appliances, for sale for 1-3K. Someone buys the house and wants to completely remodel, the current kitchen was relatively new. they just don't like it. Cabinets like maple or oak can be easily painted. granite countertops prob won't be able to be salvaged, but you never know.

for example, on my craigslist today, found this entire kitchen for sale, $800. sink/faucet too. solid wood.

Now these you could spend the money for and have painted. or even refaced.

There are new cabs that you can piece out and buy seperately and still come in under 5K.

or maybe you want to look at Ready to Assemble Cabinets or local made cabinets. you'd have to do the legwork, the planning, the install, but you would save money.

OR contact a local kitchen place or carpenter. maybe they have cabinets that are in good shape, or some customs that were made in error, others that weren't paid for, etc.

I'd match the existing hardwood and continue it into the kitchen area. I'm not sure an island will fit, but you could keep the u-shape configuration but just extend the counter to the French door casing and put counter stools underneath. Some examples:

If you are going to replace the cabinets, I would work on the layout as there are some issues with it. In particular, the lack of prep space b/w the range and sink as well as a conflict in floor space if there is someone at the sink and someone else at the range.

However, without measurements of the space, no one can give you anything more than general advice that may or may not work in your space.

My suggestion, if you plan to replace the cabinets, is to post a fully-measured layout of the space. See the Featured Answer in the "New to Kitchens? Read Me First!" thread for an explanation of what we need.

Your budget is rather low. Is there an IKEA near you? If so, consider IKEA cabinets. They are good basic cabinets with standard features that are often only found in higher-end cabinets (e.g., soft-close drawers).

Just got a bid for cabinets, $8000 for new cabinets, and $2500 for quartz countertops. $4500 remaining for a sink, microwave, paint, and refrigerator. Wish me luck! I will post pictures once the project is completed.

If you're getting new cabinets, have you considered improving the layout rather than paying to reproduce the same issues?

can you verify the depth of this peninsula? is it really as wide as the red arrow? is it a level or tiered top? it just seems so overly deep. Or did you move your dining table into that spot. just so hard to tell w/this photo

If you were to have standard depth 24" cabs here, you would have more floor space in the kitchen, and you could have a nice overhang for counter seating.

I've posted some pictures of U-G shaped kichens so you can see other options. I've brought up a few things that I think you can address and change.

This should be your exact layout (you have a bit more room and a window/sink. notice the fridge.

I'd also redo your very thick window door trim with something less 'heavy'

And, Look at all of the lower drawers. much better for storage. Make sure you get something like this layout shows. and move your micro (get a better one for built in) to the peninsula.

If you can't do it in peninsula, Then go for something like this. Where you currently have it is so bulky looking. Is there a pantry on the other side of the fridge?

I do like the panel trim on the peninsula. If that is coming out, make sure you get something that has some trim work and not just a flat panel

See how the upper cabs have these small boxes to gill in the gap? I know you have a vaulted ceiling, but try and get those uppers as far up as you can. Above the fridge, This is a great idea for big item storage. Of course you could have this enclosed, but make sure you do get a panel surround for the fridge and make sure it's Counter Depth!

Peninsula alternatives.

Pendants, small overhang where you can tuck in stools (not chairs) under, this one has a waterfall side,

but, if you want a bit more storage, try doing the end like this . Some glass upper doors are also nice.
