Drowning in a sea of oak - Need help with kitchen remodel ideas!
Comments (18)Hi everyone! Thank you SO MUCH for all of the feedback - beyond helpful and appreciated. So, looking back at the photos, the color/character that comes through on the photographs aren't quite true to the real deal. While the cabinets aren't the typical honey oak, they aren't the walnut with character like the photos look to show. Either way, I'm definitely hearing that many of you think I should not paint them - well noted! We're not quite sold on painting them and have been nervous to do so - we've heard oak doesn't paint well etc. With that said, I think I could have been more thorough in my original post in what I think the kitchen is lacking - which is contrast. While the pics don't show it the best, the flooring is the exact same color as the cabinets - and the countertop and backsplash don't add any contrast. I'm liking the idea of changing the countertops and backsplash (put in by previous owner which I've wanted to change anyways) and putting in runners! Brilliant! As for the island - it is really too small and we would like to have island seating for entertaining etc. - people tend to just stand around the kitchen when we have friends or family over and it would just make it more inviting to have island seating. My thought is to have a custom island made - and paint it cream for a contrast. I then plan on adding a cozy little area in front of the fireplace with a few chairs and eating in the dining room instead of the kitchen - old school style! I like the idea of a hood over the stove - how much does this usually run... ballpark? I also like the idea of white trim - is painting trim a bad idea - would you suggest just replacing it altogether?...See MoreI have been remodeling our kitchen. I need help with backsplash ideas.
Comments (11)This is the most peacefilled spa kitchen like I have ever seen. You have done so great with your choice of paint and counters and cabinet colors. It was obviously made for this tone of tile. I love what Claire suggests, but for some reason am growing weary of the thousands of grout lines in backsplashes this past few years, and I am sure they are easier to install for the crew that works it, but isn't this just a beautiful picture? https://www.houzz.com/photos/waikiki-chic-2-contemporary-kitchen-hawaii-phvw-vp~32466 and with a bit of texture: https://www.houzz.com/photos/waikiki-chic-2-contemporary-kitchen-hawaii-phvw-vp~32465 and with your paint: you will see the tile color in painted wall on the left and your paint choice hue(very close to it) on your right in this sitting area...https://www.houzz.com/photos/waikiki-chic-1-contemporary-living-room-hawaii-phvw-vp~32464 Enjoy looking at all the photos in this set I hope the link works!...See MoreNeed Help on Kitchen Remodel Idea
Comments (11)That really isn't a floating wall - it's connected to a soffit and continues down the hall to another doorway. I would not come out from that towards the staircase - it will look like part of your kitchen is in a hallway. Have you actually cut open the wall to see what/how big/where all these pipes are on the inside?? They are most likely not spread all through that long wall. Maybe you can remove a bunch of the wall, just leaving behind some posts ( there surely are some structural columns inside there ) and then you can be more creative with cabinetry Sort of like these maybe?? The key is to truly know what can and can't be done structurally in your home. You will need an architect to help with the structural changes since it might be a load bearing wall. You definitely have a great space to work with!...See MoreHelp! Need ideas for what to do w/ small kitchen
Comments (32)I 100% understand wanting to renovate your kitchen. However, I too would wait until you can spend more on a full redo. And as someone else said, you don't want to lock yourself into appliances that fit these cabinet measurements if are going to do more of a full redo down the line. So set a budget for what you want to spend on something you can live with for a few years. This is what we did and were able to create a really beautiful in between look. * Perhaps getting a SS fridge, microwave, and dishwasher but leaving the ovens and range white will help tone down the white. Wait for a Memorial Day sale to get them cheaper at a big box store. * Inexpensive backsplash, beautiful faucet, and new hardware will do wonders. * Depending on what you come up with you may or may not need to replace countertops for now. * Get accessories and art in there that make you happy....See MoreKelly
