Dwarf Date Palm advice
Comments (6)Update: I have given the palms a drink from the Magnesium augmented rainwater and it does seem to have helped. All three plants got greener and started putting out new fronds. So thank you for that tip. However, while two of them perked right up, one seemed to be deteriorating still. I took a closer look at the fronds and found that they were not just yellowing at the tips but that there were black, brown, yellow spots along the leaves of the fronds. I went and checked the other two and they too had the spots, but to a much lesser degree. From researching on the net, this appears to be a fairly common fungal problem. Suggested methods of control were to remove infected fronds, which I have done, avoiding watering from the top and application of a fungicide. I have never had to purchase a fungicide for anything in my life, so I'm wondering anyone has a favorite that they like to use on their palms? Any other tips I should follow to make sure that the problem doesn't come back? I plan on taking the infected fronds to my local County Extension for verification that it is indeed just leaf spot and not something more dire. Thanks again....See MoreHow to date a woman - courtship advices needed
Comments (25)I was 27 when I met my now husband, who was 42 at the time. So the ages are similar. He was divorced and had a young daughter. Honestly I realize it was naivete on my part, but his having a daughter was "neat" to me. I had no inkling of how fraught with tension etc. the whole stepchildren issue can apparently be. I'm actually glad now that I was a bit naive, because the daughter and I have, from the get go, had a wonderful relationship. One thing that in hindsight I really appreciate, (because I'm a mom myself now), is that DH waited about 6 months before even introducing the two of us. And even after the introduction, we both made sure dad and daughter had most of their together time by themselves. In other words, just because he was in love with me didn't mean she was expected to be. Another thing I'd like to add.... when I first met DH, I was instantly attracted to his secure sense of self. All the men my age were still trying hard to prove they were the best, clawing their way up the corp. ladder, buying fancy cars and expensive clothes etc. -all trying to fit in and be the best. It was so relaxing and refreshing to be with someone who already knew who he was, and who was past all that preening stage. It is hard to describe, but I so clearly remember noticing it and commenting to friends and family. So your friend may have an advantage he isn't even aware of. Honestly, I think the biggest thing is to get to know HER, and then do thoughtful things that hit the spot because he knows her so well. I've never been a flowers girl, for example. But if a boyfriend made me a CD of all my favorite songs, or bought me a book I had mentioned, etc. -that would go straight to my heart. The other thing I think is that women watch the way their prospective men interact with others, not just her. Do they generally and genuinely act kindly, compassionately and respectfully toward the shop clerk, the waiter, people in line, their grandmother, etc.......See MoreTest: Hope this forum is active and dates back in order.

Comments (31)you could choose to go lighter w/a creamy white quartz pre-fab A 9' piece in a similar color like this, should cost less than $500. (they also have 3x5 and 4x6 island pieces) Then, hire a fabricator to cut it to fit to your kitchen dimensions. Total should be under 2K. this is a granite called Jet Mist or Virginia Mist. it can be polished, honed (shown) or leathered. I like this black one Celerygirl mocked up for you. the black looks great w/the wood and the floors. Woven wood blind is nice too You could bring in a creamy white wall color, some new hardware for the cabinets (a very soft brushed gold or maybe an ORB or venetian bronze) And a creamier white backsplash tile. since you have a solid countertop, you can easily do any type of design or mosaic. Check on Blinds.com for the woven wood blinds, or something like this Classic Roman shade. they have tons of colors and patterns they also have these other blinds (a bit cheaper) that come in many colors. I used these in a soft green over the kitchen sink for a house we flipped. Oh look, another Pre-fab. Galaxy White by Stone Contact this is a creamier white granite and would actually be a nice choice w/your cabinets Find out if you have any fabricators warehouse or shops in your area, or check your local stone yards, and see what kind of remnants they have. You may luck out and find a 1/4 slab left over from another job that you can use. Maybe you could do something solid for the perimeter, but bring in something more dramatic for your island. Remnants will give you that option. (offer to pay in cash for a discount on pricing)...See Moremtnrdredux_gw
