Please help me with my living room...nothing looks right
Comments (23)First -- let me add a BIG vote for placing a TV within the bookshelves -- and using the cabinet bebeath it to hide the usual cables and equipment. Next -- first I really did like the ruby glass in the original photo -- the color worked very well with the artwork. The art was very nice -- both in its vertical placing and its shape and size. You simply needed to spread out the red accents and add lots of books (both in side-by-side AND in stacks) BUT -- if you feel like a change -- after you have installed the TV -- consider replacing the artwork with a dark-framed round mirror. The round shape would break up the strong vertical and horizontal lines. The other thing to consider would be to paint out the brass accent lines on the fireplace doors. Use very, very fine sandpaper, then sand VERY lightly, clean VERY well -- and paint over these lines using barbecue or high heat paint. Removing these strong visual elements will bring the viewer's eye back up to the shelves themselves. So -- I would concentrate on creating the TV area FIRST -- and then work on the shelving (and maybe the round mirror and the fireplace doors)....See MoreLiving room help! Comments (3)What are the big red scratch-outs? Furniture you aren't keeping? First step is the couch, second is the rug and third is the paint. Paint color should be based on fabrics and textiles (seating and rug) in the room. It can be custom blended, but the furniture is set in stone. When you shop for the rug, it should be 2-4 feet wider than the sofa. Slip it under the front 1/3 of the sofa and have it extend past the ends by 1-2 feet. You can use painter's tape on the floor to figure out the best size for your sofa and room. I'd replace the dining rug too, so the two are coordinated. In addition, push your TV credenza against the wall and put the TV on a swivel base to adjust for viewing....See MoreLiving room redecorating. need help making my room look cozy and inter
Comments (8)Center the sofa on the far wall (where the TV currently is) and put the end tables on each side. Get matching table lamps (26"-30" tall) for the end tables. You can put a larger piece of art over the sofa. This will address the immediate focal point as you enter this room. Keep the loveseat where it currently is, centered on the wall between the windows (if there's enough room when you move the sofa). Place the coffee table in front of it. If you need to scooch it down a bit that's fine, but I generally like to try centering off of architectural features first. You're looking at an arrangement something like this: You can then purchase a TV cabinet/console that will go on the wall opposite the loveseat. There might then be enough room to get a pretty side chair to angle in to the seating area. With this arrangement, you address conversation needs and also TV viewing. I wouldn't do an accent wall. Just keep all of your paint light and neutral. The carpet you have is pretty ... if you like it keep it. It looks as if you've already pulled some colors from it for your throw pillows. I would remove your valances, you don't need them with your fabric shades. Pretty furniture and a nice start to your room!...See Morehelp please, looking to fill in living room and give it new look
Comments (5)You may not want to hear this, but since you recently put in the wood flooring, I assume that more of it is available. I would take out the carpet and continue the hardwoods throughout the space. Since the carpet is also new you can have it cut down and the ends bound so it can function as a large area rug. That would instantly update the space and add to your home's value. The second item to address is the sectional. It looks like you have room for two sofas in an L configuration (one facing the fireplace and one facing the TV) or use one sofa facing the fireplace and two armchairs facing the TV. Your current sectional is overly bulky and cuts off the room. New furniture would also give you space to add a coffee table, some end tables, and table lamps for better lighting. A larger console for your TV would also be better, but start with the other furniture. Look at photos on this site to get ideas of different types of furniture that appeal to you....See MoreRupali Rao
