Living room redecorating. need help making my room look cozy and inter

I bought a couch and love seat that is a very light gray in color. The couches are a bit bigger than I thought they would be for the room. I also bought these end tables and coffee table which might have been a mistake. I am going to paint the walls a soft white But would like to do a creative accent wall but not sure what to do. Also would like advice on a rug. I would appreciate any help on this project.

Center the sofa on the far wall (where the TV currently is) and put the end tables on each side. Get matching table lamps (26"-30" tall) for the end tables. You can put a larger piece of art over the sofa. This will address the immediate focal point as you enter this room.

Keep the loveseat where it currently is, centered on the wall between the windows (if there's enough room when you move the sofa). Place the coffee table in front of it. If you need to scooch it down a bit that's fine, but I generally like to try centering off of architectural features first.

You're looking at an arrangement something like this:

You can then purchase a TV cabinet/console that will go on the wall opposite the loveseat. There might then be enough room to get a pretty side chair to angle in to the seating area. With this arrangement, you address conversation needs and also TV viewing.

I wouldn't do an accent wall. Just keep all of your paint light and neutral. The carpet you have is pretty ... if you like it keep it. It looks as if you've already pulled some colors from it for your throw pillows.

I would remove your valances, you don't need them with your fabric shades.

The first thing I would do is purchase a really wide tv console for storage and all your tv components. I find the side tables too big & would return them if possible. The coffee table is fine. Because you furniture is large, I wouldn't replace the side tables, go with floor lamps instead. I would also remove the dated scarf valance from your windows. And again, because your furniture is big, I wouldn't have a rug at all. Finally, replace the small things hanging above your couch and hang one large horizontal piece of art.

The room layout looks more for conversation than TV watching. Can the TV go in a different room?

Thanks everyone for such great suggestions. I'm also drawn to the William Morris rug, as I'm much more fond of blues and greens, rather than reds. It is the original fireplace. Appreciate all of the feedback to do the switch of the couch across from the FP. We do really want the tv in the room as it seems too far to be down in the basement to watch tv when our three boys are sleeping upstairs. I'm not sure the cabinet will look ok in that far corner (where desk is). Wonder if diagonal or just up against wall is better. I do think the desk will look great in the opposite corner (left of FP). Wonderful suggestion to get the rug and furniture and even paint all set and then think of ottoman/coffee table. Will try and take some more photos of the other sides of room and post them. Thanks again!

Can you put the chaise part up against the wall? It would open up the sitting area to the rest of the space. You could also add a rug for some texture and warmth ... the room is probably a bit loud too, with tile floors and empty walls.

Don't move the credenza then. Get an area rug, center one group of seating around fireplace and conversation and then maybe get a tea cart or something and put a small chair or two around that near the doors/windows to the outside. You can sit and sip your tea and watch the birdies outside there in the winter! When the weather gets nice you can carry the chairs out to the deck to sit in the sun! Then roll the cart out there with some cocktails later in the day!

The simplest and best solution is more lighting in your room. Add floor lamps or tables and table lamps on ends of sofas; change lamp next to TV Or add wall lamps where you think best.There are so many variations on bulb brightness and color and intensity nowadays. There are fixtures available to add under your kitchen counters to improve the light on your kitchen work surfaces. Any good Home Depot or Lowe's or Batteries and Bulbs Store can offer you the help you need. Lighting is basic; the size of your rug will not improve your lighting.

Can the loveseat be returned? If not I would try the loveseat on wall where TV is now & sofa on window wall. That will be an L-shape and might make the room feel larger. TV on a console at least 25% wider than TV on the wall where the sofa is now. Put an end table in the corner where the sofa & loveseat meet and a floor lamp at one end.

Rug: minimum of 2 feet longer than the longest sofa and wide enough to slip under the front 1/3 of it. If you can still return the loveseat, you'll be better off with a pair of chairs instead.

Tables: in a small space if everyone seated can reach the coffee table, floor lamps are a better option than end tables. Here's a sizing chart for coffee tables.

TV: a credenza should be 25% wider than the TV itself and hold all the components

Windows: remove the swags

Accent wall: the room is too small for an accent wall. Hang large, pretty art 5" above the larger sofa.

Perhaps try moving the one sofa that's on the wall with no windows to where the TV currently is. Then place the TV on the open wall with a long, low TV console. For a rug, get something that will go under both sofas. Here are a few of our designs that might aid in your dilemma. Note how big the rug is in the photos below, and the long TV console.
