Your Covid testing experience
Comments (55)My dh and I were tested at the end of June. It took 2 full weeks to get the results. More recently, my dh has been tested every week for the past month. Those results have taken 3 days to receive. Same location, drive by testing in our local Walmart parking lot. They test 1 morning every week. Easy to register, only identifying data is name, dob and email address. No insurance information needed. I assume they are reimbursed by the feds. My MIL is 95 residing in assisted living. She is very mobile and social. Like others, the months have passed with no visitors at all. My dh has been pressing management for visitation rights. Finally they offered an 'essential caregiver' option. He filled out some paperwork and as long as he provides a negative test within 3 days, he can visit in her apartment for up to 3 hours a week. His sister does the same. It's been a blessing for his mom....See MoreIt wasn't easy to get a Covid test this week.
Comments (16)https://www.hhs.gov/coronavirus/testing-plans/index.html In early April, governors in each state designated teams to develop testing plans, working with subject matter experts from HHS and FEMA. On May 30, these teams submitted their May-June plans. On July 10, the teams submitted their July-December plans. Both plans are available to view on this page. The testing SNAFU's that we are encountering is entirely on the state where you reside. This is a state level problem. It is unrealistic to think that the federal government can coordinate testing for every county, town, village, city in the whole of this vast country. This is why we have state & county health departments. Clearly, some states were not/ are not up to the task. When my son tested positive for Covid back in September, it took 5 days for him to get his results back. After his positive test, I called the only place in town (pop. approx. 60,000) that was doing tests, a local hospital, to arrange for my husband & I to be tested. I was told that a nurse had to call back to set up the test. I'm still waiting for that call, still waiting to get that test. Little wonder that Covid started raging out of control here in WI when you have to wait 5 days for results and that is IF you could manage to get tested. And this was a whole 5 months into the pandemic--late September--not March or April when you would expect things to not run smoothly. Five months in, the state should have had its act together but clearly did not....See MoreI just tested myself for Covid
Comments (18)Sjern, just have some nasal congestion/sneezing. I did retest Thursday before I ran some errands. Have to go out tomorrow or rather today, too. Negative again, so probably just allergies. I'm wearing my mask, though. I may do this from now on if I have any kind of respiratory illness. No one wants or needs the flu or anything else that I can pass on. My daughter is feeling better and so is my son. They both were really feeling bad a day or so ago. My son was covid negative but picked something up from some guy who drove him around base when he had to come back to the states for training last week....See MoreI learned this about Covid home tests
Comments (17)I find the bubonic plague theory interesting. My older brother got bubonic plague in Vietnam. He lives in a very open part of our state. Never put on a mask, no vaccines and went on with his life as usual. As far as we know he never got Covid nor any of its variants. I believe I probably had Covid before it hit the news. At the end of 2019 through the beginning of 2020 I was having issues with fatigue, mild bouts of fever similar to hot flashes and a dry, harsh, continuous cough that lasted over 2 months. Got the variant couple of months ago. Felt completely out of it for 24 hours (sore throat and fever), then felt better but lost all my appetite for several days. Building my strength back from not eating was my biggest hurdle. Was back to normal activity in 5 days. DH had the first two shots. He tested positive a few days after I was ill. I never bothered to test at all. Why test for the obvious? His symptoms were similar to mine except he always still eats when he gets sick and my appetite is the first to go whenever I fight anything viral. I guess my immune system really kicks up the cytokines....See MoreLoneJack Zn 6a, KC
