Boring Mantle - Decorating Help Needed
Comments (33)Thanks for the additional suggestions -- - So for those who say that the white mat is too stark (and I can see your point) What would you suggest instead? - Oopsie - Are you suggesting I rest the painting on the mantle? - Barb - I tried the light pot up there, but thought it just looked like pot-pot-pot... The clock was a different type and material, so it broke the pot-pot-pot thing -- though I agree it's not perfect. A 'horsehair pot' gets it's decoration from horesehair dribbled onto the hot pot straight out of the kiln. That's what gives it the smoky brown haze effect and ridged lines -- actual burned hores hair. - CrazyOne - The fireplace stone is cultured stone in the Chardonnay color, Southern Ledgestone pattern. The seat and mantle are natural limestone slabs. And while it's supposedly legal for wood-burning, we prefer the instant gratification of gas, so that's what we use. No glass or curtain -- but if I find exactly the right screen someday... Here is a link that might be useful: Horse Hair Pottery...See MoreNeed mantle decorating help please
Comments (7)Justgotabeme, thank you for the suggestions. I do have some handpainted pieces and art glass vases that I could put up there. I'll try that and see how it looks. Oopsie913, I had sconces on the wall under the plates, but I took them down. I haven't gotten around to lowering the plates yet. I do really need to get in there and do that. The shelf is very narrow...only about 8" wide so that sort of limits what I can use on the mantle. Olychic, I love the mercury glass candleholders! Unfortunately I can't use candles on the mantle in the winter time. I've had candles on it before and the heat from the fireplace almost melts them. They get really soft and sort of flop over. My3dogs, I honestly hadn't thought about painting the walls. I'm pretty sure my husband wouldn't care much for that suggestion as it hasn't been that long since we painted the room. I can just see his face if I told him I wanted to repaint it. The more I think about it though after reading your suggestion, the more I like the idea. I might just have to run it by him and see what he says. If you hear a loud booming noise, it's probably him. LOL!...See MoreNeed help with decorating this wall around the thermostat
Comments (17)No, not me or my house; just pics from internet. However, had same problem and ended up blue taping exactly where I wanted it, after the men/electricians put it front & center, like a piece of art. I guess, for them, it was their masterpiece....See MoreHow to decorate mantle that has an extremely large painting above it ?
Comments (24)I would definitely hang it higher, and it does look good framed. Either way, get rid of the floor vase. Is it possible to move that brown furniture on the left away from the fireplace? The fireplace needs breathing room, as much as possible, if you can't move it. Moving the picture up is the most important consideration. The mantel does not need any other decoration....See MoreErinn Duprey
