Wow, sounds like it was a worthwhile discussion. what are tye perameters for a discussion had by adults. does one complaint from a member get it yanked? i really don't understand. i had something pulled a while back.

I saw the thread long enough to see it was going to get polly-tickle pretty fast. So I didn't bother posting. Oh well.

Threads like that often get mysteriously disappeared when people feel the number of likes and comments which oppose their views are too upsetting. I see a very distinct pattern. I've learned not to waste my time because the flat earthers just poof it. As if that changes reality somehow.

I want to agree with you in theory Lucille. But I've put a fair amount of time and thought into too many posts here which are now gone. It's so sad, but it's a waste of time. So I swing through here on occasion, but it's not worth responding when I see the writing on the wall.

Unless they change the way 2 people can pull an entire thread (or, one person with their fake 2nd account), I just don't bother.

I understand what you are saying. But I am saddened just the same. You do write thoughtful posts, posts which may influence or enhance the thoughts of others. That your posts sometimes meet an untimely demise does not change their influence. The very fact that they were pulled showed that the ignorant cowards who pulled the thread did not have the intelligence to respond with words.

Well, it's the polly tickle* where significant change can be made in our lives so it's bound to come up in a topic about generational good and bad...especially when it's led to such a great divide.

This (thread) is the reason I very rarely post. I do look at "Kitchen Table" often though.

Just to add a small note of reality........ Threads that take on a very obviously political stance - usually one that engages all sides with equal vigor - are often pulled by Houzz management. Those are not the kinds of discussions they encourage here (against their terms of usage) and the reason Hot Topics was discontinued.

So no ignorant cowards or flat earthers or any other disparaging slurs about individual members censoring your thoughts! It's Houzz management that disapproves and will remove these sorts of threads.

I have to say, I really did not see that thread going that way at ALL. In fact, it did not go the way I saw in my head even a little bit. I asked what sort of values and ideas from THEIR generations that they wanted to see younger generations abandon,and it sort of started and continued with people kinda trashing the younger generations' ideas and values/sort of railing on the stereotypical "flaws" that the older generations see in the younger, so not what I brought up at all. There were a couple responses that fit the question. With a few wild tangents that had nothing to do with what I asked thrown in.

Johnny Carson said if you pick a side you lose half your audience and never picked. Houzz is a business for profit and has a desire to go pubic with an IPO on the stock market sometime this year, so it's obvious why the threads initialed here by left leaning instigators are removed.

You start are politically motivated thread and when the other side comments you become offended and start the flagging which brings it to the attention of the administrator, who then removes it. What I've read on Houzz rules there is no company moderator and the users are the moderators so you can't have it both ways. Censor by flagging and then bitch because your thread was removed? this is rich.

I'm a weirdo. 😀 I'm probably more conservative on some issues than most people on the KT. But I hold zero animosity if someone disagrees with me on an issue. I love a good debate, love the thought provoking discussions here. But now it seems like the only thing we can handle talking about here is floof, and obviously that's not even safe now.

Not a good sign for our country, that adults can't have a difference of opinion and allow each side to express their views. I saw the thread right before it was poofed. No one crossed a line, IMO. If someone can't handle a passionate debate, I submit an internet discussion board is not the place to spend one's time.

Certainly not here. And even more so if it is a passionate political debate. That was never the intent of this website ever and the current ownership is trying very hard to keep it that way. It is entirely within their rights to moderate discussions according to their rules. If you want to engage in political debate, find another venue!

I don't think it gets pulled because of the topic. An off-limit topic would be removed immediately, but the discussion in these threads is typically allowed to go on as long as it remains civil. What gets it pulled is when someone can't follow forum rules of how to treat their fellow posters. They can't refrain from giving their snide opinion about the member who holds an opposing view even though they know it will get the thread pulled. I have read personal insults on the KT that are so blatant that I can't believe that that member gets away with it. I guess that's why they keep doing it--no consequences. The forum suffers instead by losing threads and all the work that the members put into a post. So don't blame management--blame the person who violates the rules.

It has been a common practice for most of the last 12 months so I don't see why it is not the case here as well.

Getting an entire tread to disappear is quite different than just flagging a post. Unless obvious spam, to my knowledge, the only ones who can "poof" an entire thread is the original author (within a limited time frame) or Houzz management....if they deem the topic/discussion unsuitable.

I think when it's management, they tend to delete offending posts but leave the thread in general up. And then often post a reminder on the thread . There was nothing controversial in most of that thread, and I believe they don't have the time to actually read 99% of what's posted here. That's why the over the line attacks on specific people often stand for days or never get deleted at all.

I don't like how their form of moderation is to give one person the ability to poof a whole thread. And I say one person, because it only takes 2 flags to have it poofed, and it's way too easy to have 2 accounts here.

Enough flags will get a thread pulled for review. Frankly, I don't think the management is willing to babysit the members of these forums any longer. They'd just rather pull the thread.

It's too bad we can't have a civil discussion among ourselves without rudeness, name-calling and/or censorship. I don't know why Amy's thread was removed, there was nothing objectionable in it the last time I looked.

For a singe post, perhaps. 2 flags will alert Houzz management to a discussion that may be at issue with a thread but does not guarantee removal of that thread....only review.

I know this to be true as I was plagued by a GW cyberstalker/bully for most of 2020 and into March of this year. Even with my direct contact with Houzz management - and there was a LOT of it!! - it was next to impossible to get the offensive threads removed. And I also had a lot of help from other GW members who could clearly see how abusive this stalker was. Individual posts were removed but the threads remained.

So the above statement is just not true. It takes a whole lot more than just 2 flags from posters that may disagree with a thread to have it removed!! Otherwise we would be losing posts left, right and center. and we are not.....unless they become political in tone.

I had a similar experience, gardengal, and no matter who I contacted, I never got a response and those vicious attacks on me were allowed to remain, even though they were clear violations of their Code of Conduct.

Amylou's thread, and any controversial thread, would not be allowed to remain for 2-3 days if the topic was forbidden. It may have been removed because it was Friday and they wanted time to review it. There is only one moderator AFAIK.

I missed this post altogether and I haven't posted on the original one about what you want the current generation to keep..because I thought my response would be too negative. Not feeling too good about my generation right now.

What I've experienced is different than yours, in terms of the flagging on posts vs whole threads. Perhaps they changed it as most of my experience is from a year or so ago too though.

Late to this, but I agree that moderator(s) couldn't possibly have the time to review every single comment on every thread, which is why they encourage people to flag something for review that seems inappropriate.

Not all thread/comment disappearances are permanent, but I think, often, by the time they are restored, the forum has moved on and nobody is the wiser.

And I do think it's possible there might be a final straw comment that triggers such a disappearance, and many members may never get to see it.

And what about accidental flagging? I'm not going to test it here - there's actually a test forum for that, but is unintentional flagging reversible?

Thanks, patriceny. It was a huge ordeal and took well over a year to resolve. But the offending member was eventually banned from the site.

If nothing else, I did learn a great deal about how flagging or disrupting/removing threads work. Very hard to remove a thread by just flagging (unless spam)....much easier to have individual posts removed by flagging.
