bpath, I just watched Love Hard yesterday. Corny and predicatable, but it was filmed in the village over from ours and I ended up enjoying it. I loved the scene of the dad smelling the Grandpa candle his son had made and then saw this post this morning!

Jinx, that is so beautiful. I too have a daughter who lost her dad to cancer and I know how much she misses him. We talk about him all the time, like he just stepped out of the room for a bit.

Smell is so evocative. Close your eyes, and you're there, the memories unfaded.

As you sadly know, watching our kids go through such immense loss and pain, and not being able to fix it, is a particular kind of hell. Trying to get through our own grief, and be strong for theirs, tough times.

Have you seen the movie "Love Hard?" It's a satire of online dating, where a woman gets involved with a guy who she made a great connection with online, but then finds out he's been using his friend's photo. The movie is a satire of the games we play, both in person and online, when dating. But one of the side plots involves the male lead, who wants to start a scented candle business geared towards men. He says, "It's an underserved market." Anyway, one of his projects is to try and capture the scent of his grandfather . . . eucalyptus for the essence of "Bengay."

It's gotten pretty good reviews. It satirizes a lot of modern culture, but in a lighthearted way.
