Dining table and hutch question
Comments (2)I have a trestle-style table. It's much easier to seat many people when there are not legs at the corners. I have been looking at Amish-made tables & hutches, & most sites such as the one below offer choices of wood, such as maple, cherry & hickory. (I'm with you in not wanting oak.) Here is a link that might be useful: amish-made furniture...See MoreDoes wood kitchen cabinets need to match dining sets?? HELP first time
Comments (5)@Janelle rVarathane Kona might be a good option it still has some red undertones so it would be a warmer brown. Ebony would defiantly make it darker and be a bit more matchy/matchy with the table. Or you can throw caution to the wind and do a Weathered Gray- this one you would have to strip the cabinets to bare wood in order for it not to look weird. Rustoleum has Dark Walnut that might be pretty as well and then again throwing caution to the wind there is a color called SunBleached which would be very similar to your flooring. Minwax has a lot of mixable colors as well. The downfall to mixable is there is always room for error- meaning if you run out, even if they use the same formula there is a chance that it could be different one can to another. what i would suggest is to figure out what wood species the cabinets are ( based off of the pictures I would guess Alder or Hickory, they seem to have a lot of variations in the tone) and test out the colors in your kitchen. IMO I would go darker- I think the darker colors like the Kona or maybe even an Espresso would really make the floor and the counter top POP! And if you decide to paint them Prep work is key! From experience taking the extra time to prep the cabinets and make sure they are super clean before painting is the difference between wow and oh no! Good luck! And post pix when you have it finished i would be curious to see what you decided!...See MoreDining room remodel almost done...table no longer matches :(
Comments (147)Well, we didn't like any of the rugs we ordered from eSaleRugs so we aborted the decorating of this room for now. We are doing a first floor remodel so we had to put all of our living room furniture into the dining room to store it there. Our living room is now our temp kitchen while the kitchen get's torn down to the studs. So it'll be a few months before we are able to see the floor or walls of the dining room!...See MoreIs there enough room for a Dining Table?
Comments (11)You also need at least 4 feet between the table and the sofa or whatever furniture you have in the Living Room. I think your table will be fine. You have 10' to work with in addition to the space that's not labeled b/w the island and the beginning of the 10-foot wide space. I would be more concerned about two things: (1) the island and the lack of workspace and landing space (2) the too-narrow aisle between the island and range wall. Island...For an island to fit a sink, it should be sized so there's at least 36" on the non-DW side of the sink (42" to 48"is much, much better) and 24" to 36" on the DW side of the sink. The non-DW side of the sink is the Prep Zone and the DW side is the Cleanup Zone. The configuration you show has no landing space at all on one side -- so things can easily be knocked off and splashing water on the floor will be an issue. In general, you don't have counter space where you need it most and you have excessive counter space where it's not particularly useful. It looks like you have some kind of cabs/counters to the left of the Laundry Room door. I suggest eliminating them and extending the island farther toward the Laundry Room to add badly needed counter space to the island. Aisle...You have all three primary work zones crammed into one small space. That means any time there's more than one person working in the Kitchen they will be vying for space and be getting in each other's way. The minimum width for a work aisle is 42" for one person and 48" for two or more people. In addition, please keep in mind that aisles are measured to/from the items that stick out the farthest into the aisle -- appliance handles, walls, counter edges, etc. They are not measured to/from cabinets. Cabinet measurements (24"D) only account for the cabinet box, they do not account for the doors/drawer fronts (1" beyond the cabinet box) or the counter overhang (1.5" beyond the cabinet box). Based on what appears to be happening in your layout, the aisle b/w the island and range is really 31" to 33" or so (depending on the total depth of your range). Far too narrow!...See MoreNo Thanks
