Problems with new sofa...uncomfortable and cushions too soft
Comments (11)Thanks for the replies. I wonder if other people have problems similar to mine with their new sofas? To answer some of your questions: The sofa is only two weeks old, and the cushion I've been sitting on is showing a little more compression and the fabric doesn't look quite tight against the top of the cushion...all of this makes the cushion not look so new. Besides looks, comfort is important, and the cushion doesn't offer enough support. Gosh, two weeks is such a short time for a cushion to show this type of compression. My seat cushions are definitely spring-down and I'm 99% sure that the cushions on the model in the store are spring-down because that model comes standard with SD, but I can ask that the repair man bring one of the cushions from the showroom model for comparison, as I'm not sure if I will be able to make the drive back to that showroom. I'd like to go back to the store to figure out why their sofa fits me, but mine seems too deep. Maybe they had the back cushions at an angle when I sat in it. It's a Stickley sofa, and I believe Stickly stands by their products, so I'm hoping the issue can be resolved to my satisfaction. The other problem with the sofa is that some of the 8-way hand-tied springs in the sofa make noises...I don't know how this can be fixed. Thanks again....See MoreAny Ideas? Comments (16)All but 2 of the old cushions are really bad. When I opened the cover to see about possibly rewrapping & reshaping, the foam was in crumbled pieces. Some are quite worn down and have taken the shape of items they were sandwiched between while in storage. These posts reminded me that I have an old set of Lloyd Flanders cushions from my wicker set in my attic. The fabric covers are worn and faded, but the innards are in great shape, which is why I kept them. I was told at the time that LF doesn't sell covers only, so I replaced the whole cushion set. These didn't come to mind because the side cushions are curved, but now I'm thinking I can somehow "square off" those edges. Still pondering.......See MoreLeather sofa, good or bad idea?
Comments (19)I have too many leather pieces..because it's too functional..so the plan is to start switching it for something at some point...:) Dislike when stuff is the same. Also, mad about velvet. But. I'm looking right now at two leather chairs my ex husband just gave me back, several years after they stayed at his place (his wife hates them, and I don't lol- they're also smallish and great footprint for our new living)-they're by Natuzzi, real Natuzzi and not their cheaper Italsofa line they sell in Macy's..and they are 17 years old..and now I'd say they at last really need reupholstering..but probably just the handles and the pillows..we'll see. and the color is off-white(yeah I bought them in off white when having a toddler and a baby..so they saw a lot, these poor chairs))..clean them professionally from time to time if they get abused too much, and they'll look like new again. Natuzzi gives you special leather care kit, but in several years, after markers and dysentery, in no particular order, you want to invite somebody who does professional cleaning. Silly me learned about this option too late..we had a sofa as well, and I cleaned it so hard I made a hole in it, after 5 years or so..)) This Natuzzi brand, they know their stuff(or knew, back in those days)..they have several levels of sturdiness, and great explanations about them, and it's custom made to your specs and colors, and it takes 3 months from order to delivery-but exactly three. A lot-but they're true to what they promise....See MoreAny idea how to soften the sofa back cushions of old Stickley sofa
Comments (8)There's no "quick fix" . You take the backs to an upholsterer and get new inserts made with a softer filling. My guess would be someone OVERSTUFFED the backs to re shape them. So it wouldn't look like a lumpy mess. If you feel brave, unzip, Cut the cover inside open and see how much poly wrap or fill has been jammed in, and remove some. Re stitch the inside cover closed. Do this at your own peril. : ) It is very difficult to make two cushion backs hold their shape for any length of time. A dog perching there.........someone throwing an arm over all the time. Even a cat can louse up the shape unless contantly fluffed and rotated and reversed....See MoreRelated Professionals
