trash compactor or pull out garbage drawer
Comments (18)I think trash compactors are one of those things people either love or hate. I've never had one and would not want one. All things being equal I'd pick the house without one. If you put in a pull out trash, and your buyer wants a compactor, they can install one. If you put in a compactor, it's a lot harder to get rid of that and get the matching cabinet door to convert to a pull out trash. HOWEVER! The real question is: Are you remodeling for yourself or for some potential buyer down the road? Are you going to sell your house immediately after the remodel? If so, then yeah, you want to do what will sell the house. But if not, then IMHO you want to remodel your kitchen to please yourself. Trying to guess what some potential buyer might or might not want, years from now, is a no-win game. And in the meantime you're living with a kitchen that's less than ideal for you....See MoreTrash can cabinet vs extra column of drawers
Comments (61)I love my new double bin trash pullout. It solved 2 problems: 1. My first problem was with one of my dog's - Mocha. He is sort of a brainiac, and over the years has learned how to step on the trash bin pedal to open it up, and then search for "snacks". Heck, he's the reason I didn't get one of those foot pedals for water for the sink. There's no way he can figure out the trash pullout unless he decides to use his teeth on the pull. And he's getting old enough now that his teeth shouldn't be that strong anymore! ;) 2. The second problem was with my husband. It is a war to get him to take the trash out unless it's nearly overflowing - or they simply can't cram anything else into the bin. I swear they would walk a mile around a pile of trash before they would take it outside. Our outside trash is far enough away that it's a pain, but he should really just do it on his way out the door in the morning. The problem with that is, it's nearly overflowing by nightfall or after dinner. Now with 2 bins in the pullout, I can at least tie up the full bag so that no one else can try to cram anything else into it. There is a second one there for them to start on. Mocha is also bewildered where his snack bin has gone to....See MoreKnob placement on trash pull out cabinet
Comments (14)Mileady - I have the same situation you do with trim on the door, knobs, and bin pulls. One idea I don't mind is to put the knob in the middle. The other I'm tossing around is to buy two handles that go with my other hardware - one for a horizontal cabinet with a hydraulic hinge that needs to pull "up" and one for the trash pull out. I also have a cookbook shelf turned to the side on the end of a run of cabinets, which means there is a false door on the front. Of course that door needs a pull of some sort, but I keep imagining someone coming over and yanking on it thinking it's functional....See MoreDrawer pull placement on shaker style drawers
Comments (13)I did shaker fronts on all areas 9" or taller, and slabs on the rest. I thought full shaker would look too busy since I have some small drawers. We have cup pulls on all drawers and knobs on all doors. Here's where I get stupid. :) (Not really, we're building and don't move in until this week and exact placement of hardware is eluding me right now...) I think our cup pulls are centered on slab fronts and rail-mounted on shaker fronts. I have some pics at home and will be happy to share this evening if you're interested. Now it's bugging me that I can't remember!...See Moreontariomom
