Need help with cabinet hardware for trash pull out area
Comments (7)Hi! I'm actually considering the hardware you show (is it Hickory/Belwith Keeler?). My KD suggests knobs on upper doors & pulls on lower since pulls sometime get caught on pants pockets. I can confirm this since we currently have a mix -- I changed hardware when we 1st moved-in & lower drawers still all have knobs. If you really don't want to move away from knobs on the lower doors & drawers, you might consider not putting anything on the false front panels (see Susie's picture -- she doesn't have anything on false front at sink). Put knob on drawer & pull on trash -- you definitely want a pull on the trash, we changed my Mom's out from a knob years ago, it is too small an area to easily pull the trash drawer out. Also use the size pull that is comfortable for your hand. My cabinet designer says you'll get the same force from both size pulls. Good luck....See MorePlacement of Pull-out Trash
Comments (11)I have 2 small cans under our 10" deep apron sink. One for recycling and one for trash. I empty it once every couple fo days. There is also a big disposal. We have a 36" sink cabinet and a 36" sink. There are only 2 of us now. When my boys were home I would imagine it would fill up much quicker. We pretty much only eat fresh foods so not much packaging/boxes go in. I think the cans are about 6 gallons each. I do like that they get emptied more frequently since it just feels cleaner. When I had the bigger 13 gallon trash with my boys in the other house, they'd toss food and it would end up all over the side of the trash can. Then again... they were piggies when they lived at home....See Morehardware on trash pull out cabinet
Comments (6)Whatever you think looks best is what you should use. There is no hard and fast rule. You might try googling pull out trash (images) or cruising the FKB to see what looks good to you. I used knobs on my cabs and pulls on my drawers and a pull on my pull out trash because for me, no matter what it looks like, it's still a drawer. But like I said, it's a matter of personal preference so peruse some pix and do which ever you like....See MoreLovers of pull-out trash cabinets, what did you have before?
Comments (23)I agonized over the trash location as well. I've always had freestanding trashcans sitting somewhere - usually in the way - on the floor of my kitchen and have always hated them. I've never been able to find one that I liked or that matched my kitchen, so I've always just had to settle for whatever I could find. I can't stand to have my trash can in the pantry - it just seems incongruous to have my trash in there with my food. I don't like the idea of having it under the sink because I don't like having two functions in the same place. Why agonize? I loathed the idea of having to open the trash with my potentially dirty hands and those free standing cans always had a hands free option. Enter the GW Kitchen forum where I learned about the foot pedal for trash cabinets and the whole thing was decided. I absolutely LOVE having my trash hidden in a cabinet. No one has to move out of the way in order for someone else to access it. Yes, guests have to be told where it is -- but how is that different than anyone else's kitchen? In any kitchen that doesn't have a freestanding trash cans out in the open, aren't guests always having to ask? I never know if it's under the sink or in the pantry or in the adjoining utility room, etc. To review: I love my pull out trash because it's: -- Hidden -- Accessible -- Hands free -- In a convenient and acceptable (to me) location...See Moredonka
