hardware on trash pull out cabinet

I am putting knobs on my cabinet doors and pulls on my drawers, what should I put on my pull out cabinet with the trash can? It looks like a cabinet, but pulls out like a drawer. The cabinet guy said a handle, but I am thinking a knob. Also, I have a drop down door on my sink front, one or two handels or nothing? It is 30" wide.

Whatever you think looks best is what you should use. There is no hard and fast rule. You might try googling pull out trash (images) or cruising the FKB to see what looks good to you.

I used knobs on my cabs and pulls on my drawers and a pull on my pull out trash because for me, no matter what it looks like, it's still a drawer. But like I said, it's a matter of personal preference so peruse some pix and do which ever you like.

Thank you SO much everyone for your posts!! All of you who posted kitchen pics, beautiful kitchens!! brickeyee, love that! What an easy and cute way to identify the garbage pull out. Show us a pic if you can! babs711, don't you just love getting ideas from GW? ;) I love this site! remodelfla, very good point! :) linelle, I've heard mixed reviews about pulls like that. Some have said that it does get in the way, especially when you have to get into the cabinet underneath. And that people don't like leaning up against the towel/bar. Especially if the towel is damp, then someone unknowingly leans up against it while using the sink, then gets dampness on their clothes. But then others have said it doesn't bother them at all! Do a search on it. I read a thread recently, but I can't remember if I did a search on it & found an old thread or if it was a recently posted thread.

Hi! I'm actually considering the hardware you show (is it Hickory/Belwith Keeler?). My KD suggests knobs on upper doors & pulls on lower since pulls sometime get caught on pants pockets. I can confirm this since we currently have a mix -- I changed hardware when we 1st moved-in & lower drawers still all have knobs. If you really don't want to move away from knobs on the lower doors & drawers, you might consider not putting anything on the false front panels (see Susie's picture -- she doesn't have anything on false front at sink). Put knob on drawer & pull on trash -- you definitely want a pull on the trash, we changed my Mom's out from a knob years ago, it is too small an area to easily pull the trash drawer out. Also use the size pull that is comfortable for your hand. My cabinet designer says you'll get the same force from both size pulls. Good luck.

Trash compactor or trash pull-out?

I have to say that when I had a group of young (that is, younger than me) friends over and they saw our freestanding trash compactor, they laughed and said they hadn't seen one since they were kids. Thanks! In any case, we replaced it with trash cans under the sink when we did the reno. Our small kitchen didn't have space for a pullout or we might have gone that way. How many people live in your house? When all 3 kids were growing up, the trash compactor was marvelous. When it got to be just the 2 of us, it could take 3 weeks to fill. We made separate trash runs for smelly things like meat trays. If you have a houseful of people, I say replace it until you do your reno and then reevaluate. You're unlikely to be sorry you have it, and it's so much easier not trying to blend a new element into a cabinet run that you're going to replace anyway.

The pull on my trash pull-out is a knob, but it's mounted on the recessed panel of the door, and works fine. I think I had to use a shorter screw, but you could also put a thin piece of wood on the back of the door, to use the screws that come with the pulls, and to reinforce the door panel. Adding: When I first installed the pull-out, I had a cup pull with the extra piece of wood on the back, but later changed to a knob to match the sink cabinet knobs.

My concern was a handle on the drawer above the trash pull out and then another handle below it. All of these decisions.

Tomorrow they do my template for the granite, more decisions!

Position in this case is really just an appearance thing. Kpaquette's looks great just that way, but since it looks like a door I might also choose to mount it to match the other doors. (Actually, mine's not on view from outside the kitchen and I found mine the perfect place for a rod-type handle that doesn't match anything to hold a towel. But if I were you...:)

We have knobs and cup pulls. We pul a know on the trash pull out. I think it is a matter of personal preference.
