The rain shower head is very gentle and perhaps not enough force to remove shampoo. It's typically the addon to a complete wall shower set I think you will want a hand held after having a baby.

I like the concept of the long shower niche, but I would not add the contrasting tile to the niche. I might do a contrasting tile to the complete wall but not just the niche.

See below niche with contrasting tile....... it's just not my cup of tea, but you do you.

I agree- not accent the niche. It just gets cluttery when you put product in there.

Rain head plus a handheld on a bar works fine for me. My shower is 4’x6’ with three 4” cans and two rain heads and two hand helds. Most of the time I shower with only the vanity lights on…

Hand held and rain head is enough….you do not need a third head. We also have body sprays, but that’s a different discussion. I have not used a rain shower head, but many do not like them for normal showering. I’ll let others chime in as to why.

I have two heads (hand held and a regular head on the wall) and I had them position the hand held so I can use it as a regular shower head if I choose (I’m 5’2”). It’s very convenient when I want the water to spray very close to my head without having to hold the wand. The regular wall head was installed up high enough for my husband (he’s 6’3”). So the bar and all the other fixtures are positioned specifically for our needs. It’s important to get in the shower while it’s still under construction and stand there to see what will work for you and others who will be using the shower. I made sure to mark up the studs for our plumbers in order to get the correct heights for everything (be sure to account for the height of your shower pan and tile). And make sure the handheld is positioned so that it can reach the entire shower for cleaning.

I went to a showroom where they had all the heads and handhelds on display AND operational. I wanted to find the ones wth the greatest water pressure, and there was a big difference between them as far as pressure goes. It’s always helpful to be able to try them out so there are no unhappy surprises after install.

Also, they make recessed cans with fans in them which is actually a regular recessed can that has the fan up inside it…so you won’t see any fan installed, you’ll just see the can light. These special cans can be hooked up on independent switches so that the fan and can are able to run independently of one another (so you can have the fan on without the can lit or can have the can lit without the fan running).

We have 3 cans in our shower and it’s PLENTY bright (and I like light!).

Here is our shower with the cans marked in yellow. Obviously a different configuration than yours, but this gives you an idea of the space and how it’s lighted. I think 4 would be overkill in your scenario.

I would not highlight the niche. Looks fine empty, but will never be empty.

if your shower door is just at head level, the rain head may splash water out onto the floor.

I personally think the rainhead is a waste of money.

A powerful head and a detachable handheld is always nice for anyone.
