found roses at High Country Roses
Comments (3)I bought both these from High Country years ago. Hattie was given to a friend in a slightly warmer zone - 5, not 4, where she did much better. I was a bit shocked by how hot pink she was in person - not what I had in mind at all, LOL. Champagne Arches (aka Nancy Parker) is a monster rose here in zone 4! Completely cane hardy, I have it growing over an arch and the canes reach about 10'. It does require some taming, however, as it puts out a LOT of new canes - and it will sucker several feet away. It's a thorny devil, but when it blooms, it just covers itself with those peachy double blossoms. Basically once blooming, in an odd year I may have a small handful of flowers late in the season....See MoreHigh Country Roses gift certificates 25% off through December
Comments (39)Patty or anyone else. Do you happen to know when they will be back from vacation? I got a gift certificate, but had trouble using it, so he's going to put my order in for me. I asked him to write me a email to let me know when he got it done, mostly so my mind would be eased and I would know that I got my roses. This was around Dec. 27th or so. I have tried calling the last couple of days with no luck, so I figure they haven't made it back yet. I was wanting to add one if it was going to be one they put back in stock and ask a question. Anyway, I was just wondering if anyone knew when they were planning on coming back from vacation. I wish I could afford one as long, lol...See MoreHigh Country Roses Sale!!!!
Comments (56)Joey, I have also considered Audrey Hepburn. I think I picked her up and put her down 3 or 4 times this spring. But I was concerned she wouldn't be cane hardy so eventually put her down. Kimberly, This is my 1 yr old Dick Koster today, as in 5 min. ago when I took the photo. The bush is still tiny but the one's at HCR were bigger. We increased the water to a number of our roses this year because they didn't have much growth. This is one of them that we may have been starving. I was grumbling to myself that I needed to pick more big roses after seeing Audrey and the Baroness, and then while out to take the Dick Koster photo, I saw I did have an enormous bloom on my Pretty Lady Rose. It is the only bloom on the bush right now so that must account for it's size. I'm really looking forward to my Parade Day explosion in a couple of days. The top is thick with buds. My Playboy continues to delight. Hard to get a good photo because it is so sparkly that it tricks the camera. It is a really good continual bloomer for me. You probably can't see it but there are loads of buds in between all those flowers....See MoreHigh Country Roses discount code
Comments (69)Nahema is really pretty! Is it a climber for either of you? Dortmund is really beautiful and I asked Matt about it once when I was admiring his mother (cutting) plant. He said it was the best it had ever looked which sort of implied it normally didn't have so many flowers so I ended up not getting it. Then last year I saw a hugh gorgeous one at the Cleveland Botanical Gardens that was loaded with flowers so it definately does well out there. These 3 pictures are from the Cleveland Botanical Gardens. Does anyone think I could get Dortmund to this size in Denver? It is a zone 4 so maybe I should try. Thanks for the report on Lady in Red. I had such high hopes for it and was surprised it died down to the ground. If yours didn't make it then I'm not the only one. All my pictures are previous years also. In the very short time I've been growing roses I learned not to prune before May so as not to encourage new growth as it will just freeze. I think so far it appears all mine survived this last winter due to a bit of green cane at the base. Robusta is the only rose I've added that has turned into a good sized bush and is green to the tips. Pretty Lady rose is next for reliable green cane but not showing new growth on them yet, except at the base. Winnipeg Parks appears to be putting out alot of new leaves. She was put in July 2019 so is just an itty bitty thing. I have high hopes for her. I am very surprised that my Bucks had serious cane death to the ground (Amiga Mia and Calico Gal). Even my Fairy which is a 20+ year old plant had alot of cane die off so I think I will prune it to the ground to get it rejuvinated this year. The last couple of years it seems to have struggled and been losing size year over year. Glad to hear your Love Song does well! I put one in July 2018 but it only had two blooms last year. It is in a sheltered spot because everyone said it wouldn't live. But it is too shady and probably needs to be moved to the sun. However then it will be exposed to the harsh winters. My husband wants to give it another year because he is the one who would have to move it. So not sure what will happen with it this next year. What sort of environment do you have yours in? Any photos of the full bush?...See MoreMadison Post
