What else is in the room? Could it be trees outside, your furniture or rugs/flooring that are throwing it off? What lighting do you have - LED 4000k is the closest to daylight & might help fix the colour. There was a great article on Houzz showing how trees close to the windo cast a greenish hue. Good luck - hope you can resolve.

Thanks - I was thinking of that too, though it is winter where I am now, and the trees have lost their leaves. I will look at my lighting and see if I can work with that.

I'm thinking I can live w/ this slight greenish tinge, though I did receive more info from SW. Apparently Whitetail looks different when it's made using the High Reflective White base vs the Extra White Base. The guy @ SW said the High Reflective White base Whitetail matches the chip; the Extra White base one is likely to be off. Wish I'd known this earlier b/c mine is Extra White base. Though on the other hand he said the High Reflective White base doesn't have good coverage/is hard to work with.

I'm thinking now I'll just ask the painter to do the trim Whitetail as originally planned, and hopefully it will look better with less contrast.

One final question - I had asked the painter to also do the ceiling Whitetail but he messed up and did the ceiling Extra White. Does anyone have any opinions on whether I should stick w/ the Extra White & leave it as is, or ask him to do it Whitetail? Is it worth the trouble to change it - will the lack of contrast maybe make things more cohesive? I will post a picture tomorrow in daylight.

Ceilings tend to pick up a hint of the wall color, so a lot of people paint ceilings plain white. It won't look exactly like the wall color, however, so if that is the look you're going for, you should have the painter repaint it.

SW Whitetail + FB Lime White are from the same Yellow Hue Family neighbourhood.

Lime White is darker & almost 2 x more colourful than Whitetail.

Both have the potential for a degree of perceptual greenness.

Depending upon the quality of light available, a sense of green maybe more/less evident.

If you look at pictures of these colours, note they appear more green in some situations and less so in others.

Although SW Extra White + Whitetail have enough difference in Chroma (colourfulness) to be paired together - more than 0.2. Whitetail is also a tiny touch lighter than Extra White.

Usually when teaming a white choice with a wall colour the expectation is for the trim to be lighter than the wall.

Also as Extra White is more neutral, Whitetail will appear more colourful by comparison, which will likely emphasise further, the sense of greenness you see in your room.

Thanks! I think then it's the contrast w extra white and whitetail that may be the problem. I'm going to go ahead & get the painter to repaint all the extra white bits - trim & ceiling - whitetail. Let's see how it goes.

If they mixed the paint with a different base than the formula called for then it will not be the same color.

The Hue = 91.9 Yellow =90

Extra White has a lot of gray in it, that is why it covers better than the High Reflective White base.

But if you add gray to yellow you will see green.

Thanks -- that's what the SW guy told me the other day. I wish they had told me that earlier (ie., when I was choosing the colour) because my painter specifically told me to look for colours with the Extra White base - this is b/c I was covering a very dark colour. If I'd known Whitetail in that base wouldn't match the chip I would have chosen something else. Plus it's been very very tough to get paint samples & even quarts of paint to try out b/c of the paint shortage. I wasn't able to get a quart of whitetail in the HRW base to try.

I have told the painter to fix the trim & ceilings by painting Whitetail in the HRW base. Hopefully it will cover the Extra White that is already there...... the painter is unsure about that but willing to try it. He is really not a fan of the HRW base & SW also told me it covers very badly.

I hate when we are not provided full information as consumers. It sucks.

I understand that very light, bright whites don't cover as well as grayed down darker whites. Does this mean we should only use muddy, muck colored whites? Not in my house.

Painting any dark color with a lighter color means that you have to cover the dark color first.

A couple of coats of a high quality primer will take care of the issues.

If your starting with a white wall you can cover in two coats with another white.

Using a good quality primer and a good quality paint are also keys to success.
