RVR Mystery Rose -- Any idea who she is?
Comments (21)I haven't tried Janet yet. I may do that on Monday, but I really hate to bother her with this. After all, they do give away these roses on the basis of them not being identified right? If everyone pestered them later as to what each rose was, that might not be so fun for them. It does look like Alister Stella Gray, flower-wise. The one thing on that one that gives me pause is the lack of thorns on mine. My whole plant only has one. Can anyone who grows ASG comment on the thorniness of that rose -- the one comment on that subject at HMF says ASG is quite thorny. Also, RVR does not show this rose on their own website or on HMF as one that CAN be obtained from them. Anyone ever gotten an ASG from RVR that can confirm that they even have that plant? Thanks, Kathy...See MoreMemorial Day Rose--any idea?
Comments (23)Memorial Day still likes lots of water here. I'm tempted to just chop all the forming buds off in the summer while the thrips are partying here and see if maybe the blooms get better in the fall. The blooms now are very funky, weird and sad because of thrips. The photos of this rose in other gardens, reports of wonderful fragrance and the healthy foliage here makes me want to keep trying with it even though it seems to like extra water here. It must be good if the thrips like it this much! If it's good enough for bugs to love it's good enough for me. I just have to figure out how to manage the bugs. I can't say anything bad about Summer Romance. It has quickly become one of my absolute favorite roses. The BEST fragrance. So many blooms. Heat tolerant (really unbelievable heat tolerance for me actually). So quick to repeat. Pretty foliage, super healthy and graceful growth habit....See MoreAny idea what rose this is?
Comments (9)It looks a lot like my "Distant Drums" in bloom. Do the blooms change color as they age? My "Distant Drums" starts in a buttery yellow with the purple rim, but the blossom turns to a pale lavender as it ages. http://www.heirloomroses.com/roses/unusual-color-roses/distant-drums.html http://www.helpmefind.com/gardening/l.php?l=2.1538 http://www.thegracefulgardener.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/06/2012-03-30_4947_edited-11.jpg...See MoreAny ideas what Kordes rose this could be?
Comments (18)Patty, that is good to know that she ended up going own root eventually. I'm hoping Pat will have some FFT that she can send me, if not Palatines unless Chamblee's decides to carry her. I'm wanting a few of these since so many state she stays small. I have 'Kosmos' coming from RU and have an older own root 'Sisters Fairy Tale' that does really well and stays small. I can't hope to have "one of each" like so many of the rose growers here since I don't get the 8 hours of sun so many roses require in any part of my yard, the best is about 5 hours of sun. I just want roses that will do well in my limited sunlight gardens, are black spot resistant and can survive our crazy, erratic winter weather and stay manageable in size. Scent is a bonus. Kordes do very well as do Easy Elegance. My 'Champagne Wishes' bought own root last year is huge and loaded with buds. That's the kind of roses I want to grow :-)...See MoreDiane Brakefield
