First snow....

Hibiscus Mutabilis (aka Confederate Rose, Cotton Rose) always a challenge growing tropicals outside in zone 7b. This plant reached 8 feet before our first killing freeze. It produced only one flowering bud which was harvested the afternoon before and opened the next day in the house.

Someone recently posted a picture of a christmas tree made of jewelry. I mentioned that my mom has one she made that is similar. It stays up year round.. Here it is.

Pigface- on the verge up the street from our house:

I'm thinking about planting some myself as ground cover. It's tough enough to survive my gardening skills.

@jmm1837, I've always heard that called Ice Plant.

I believe it has several different names, including Ice Plant, but here in Oz I've only heard it called Pigface. This one is an Australian native, by the way.

Edited to add: reading up on this, I've learned that this plant is entirely edible, flowers, leaves and all, and also good for treating insect bites and burns. Who knew?
