U daylilies 2021
Comments (13)Nice daylilies! I really like all of them. Upgrade is lovely! I really like its eye. Ultimate Illusion is a very interesting pattern. Would you say it has an eye and a watermark? I also love the white edge on the sepals. Umbrella Cockatoo is a plant that grows well here. Una de Gato bloomed for the first time last season. We like it! In case you are trying to translate the name, the n in una should have a tilde over it. Unending Melody is a nice little flower, but I have had no luck in trying to breed with it so it will be going this spring. Sometimes we just decide that there are better similar ones to use. For example, instead of using this one, I would rather use Sam Abell (similar color, but better edge) or Empire of Dawn and Dusk (more white petal color). As you might imagine, Unforgettable Fire is one of Bob's favorites. We first saw this one in a daylily nursery about 20 miles north of us (the nursery is now closed), The owner said it was a slow grower and she had none to sell. Bob tracked it down on the internet (the internet with all its faults makes buying rare plants a lot easier) and found a lady in New York who sold him a piece. It's a great grower and increaser for us. Unstoppable is a nice daylily. It's not always this dark red. Most of the time it's a bright red. This picture was taken during some cool weather. Bob mentioned that we should get rid of Untangle My Emotions, but I am just reluctant to. It is shorter than we like and we don't breed with it anymore. I am sentimentally attached to it though. When we first started buying daylilies, the addiction hadn't taken hold yet and we didn't spend much on any one daylily. Consequently, our collection was comprised of older varieties. This one was sent as a bonus and I was thrilled. It was the newest daylily we had in the garden. It was just one tiny fan and it didn't bloom for two years but I was happy. Bob loves Up Against the Sun but I am not a fan. It's tall and a great grower, but I don't love the color. That's all for me. Nancy...See MoreSchedule for the Color Posts 2021

Comments (30)BRAD, I guess I shouldn't spoil your anticipation on the seedlings by showing you what that cross gave me.....so I'll show a few other crosses with Spirit of the Dove as parent. It's easy to see her influence in the kids: first year seedling, 'Carmen Renee' x 'Spirit of the Dove' 'Spirit of the Dove' x 'Blue Dolphin' 'Spirit of the Dove' x 'Dream Sequence' sibling seedling 'Spirit of the Dove' x 'Dream Sequence' 'Luna' x 'Spirit of the Dove' This seedling looks exactly like SOTD, the only difference is the bloom is larger, a whopping 9 inches! sibling to the first seedling, 'Carmen Renee' x 'Spirit of the Dove' another seedling 'Spirit of the Dove' x 'Dream Sequence'...See MoreBest Toothy Daylilies of 2021
Comments (16)Debra, WOW Wow! on that first seedling!! Amazing looking flower. Congratulations on some nice seedlings. Nancy, I like your Ruffled Strawberry Parfait x Extreme Tangerine seedling. It is very eye-catching! As for me, toothies are just coming into favor with me. At first I was undecided if I liked them or not but they grew on me. Now I like them quite a lot and the few I acquired this year came late and did not bloom for me because they came from a warmer climate where they had already bloomed. I'm looking forward to next year to see what they will do. These are all I have that bloomed: Absolute Ripper, brand new and a huge bloom on a tiny plant Once and For All, also brand new and didn't have time to get very 'toothy' a toothy seedling of mine, color needs improvement Violet Predator, also brand new and it was late summer/early Fall when it bloomed so too cool for there to be teeth Wild Hair Vampire Fish Thistles and Thorns Ruckus...See Moreshive
