Favorite Lavender Daylilies of 2021
This is the post for lavender lovers, and I know we have quite a few on this forum. So show us your best lavenders, whether they are lavender purple, rosy lavender, red lavender or pink lavender. Monday will be yellows! Thanks to everyone who is participating. When we do the color posts, we see a lot of daylilies whose photos are not posted much.
My top favorite lavender this season was Royal Invitation. This photo is on rebloom. Earlier blooms had more teeth on the edge, but I like the look of this flowing white edge. This is the second year for this one to bloom in my garden, and I've been thrilled with the increase of fans and the rebloom. It's also a good pod setter, and grows taller than the registered 22 inches here (24-26 inches in my garden).
Aerial Applique is always lovely in the early season.
I need to get Angels Bow Down out of a pot. It didn't have many blooms last year, but the ones it did have were striking.
Carmen Renee is a joy in the late season.
English Lavender had taller, better-budded scapes this year. I think it's finally recovering from the grub attacks. It hasn't mutliplied in four years though. In fact, it went from four to three fans.
Untamed Heart was beautiful at clump strength, and it rebloomed for the first time ever!
Grace Alone had pretty flowers, but not many buds. I don't think my pot area gets enough sun anymore.
Pistil Whipped has had short scapes both years. I made sure to dose it well with grub killer in September.
Freudian Slip
Lavender Evensong for Al was a new one this Spring. I like the blooms and hope it does even better next year.

2 years agoI agree with David. Pistil Whipped is my favorite too--so lovely! I also like English Lavender. We tried to grow it but it didn't like our climate and eventually died.
I have fallen behind on posting--been very busy. We are going to the Shirley Farmer Midwest Hybridizers Meeting. It will be a lot of fun. It hasn't taken place in person since Nov. of 2019. Zoom meetings aren't the same.Lavender is my least favorite color in daylilies so we have very few. Here are some of the ones we have.
Flight of Orchids is probably my favorite lavender. It is new to the garden. I love the feathered effect of the eye.
Lilac Moonchild will be leaving the garden next spring. There is nothing wrong with it, but in the interest of downsizing, some have to go.
Becky Adams is probably leaving too for the same reason.

Comments (41)Roses for Dallas --not registered height, but hasn't been beneath foliage here. Growth habit is like Carolina Cool Down, but a bit shorter. Ring the Bells of Heaven --when it is good, it is very good, but can be quite splotchy. Royal Girls --strong and pure color. This picture after some sun. Comments (43)Mantis, some of the pinks I showed are new for me this year and I can't comment much on performance.....but I will try to take the time to give my evaluations from now on since I agree with you that it's helpful. I was rushing to get the photos up. As for Pinewood Strawberry Moon, I wanted to get it and found it after much searching. Strangely, it went completely dormant and underground in September so I hope I didn't lose it. I did get it's pollen and have several crosses with it to start over the winter and sell. For a new plant, it bloomed very well and seemed vigorous so I don't know what happened. As for Boss Hogg, it is fairly new and taking it's sweet time doing much, just like RFK. Both started as single fans and RFK is still a single fan going into it's 3rd year. I've moved it twice hoping that would help. I'm frustrated by it's lack of vigor and increase. Baby Blue Eyes is lovely smaller daylily. Stunning color and a decent performer here.
Fiordilgii has done well here in a less than ideal spot.
Flutterbye showing off. This lovely older daylily is a great performer here. I usually have several displays like this ineveach season.
Lavender Stardust got moved this summer. It decreased in performance because of tree growth. i hope it does better next season. i like the saturated lavender color on it.

Magic Lake hhas been a good performer in a less than ideal spot.
Smurfette was new to the garden last season. I love it so far, big blooms.
I decided to post Soft Hearted Mother here, a lavender edge seems a bit rare. it has increased nicely in three seasons here.

Celeste, lots of beauties! Spirit of the Dove always wows me. The seeds you sent for Spirit x Sky Over Schuler should be blooming next summer. I'm so looking forward to it. Ocean Pearl and Age of Aquarius are also beautiful. I've really been eyeing Age of Aq. for several years now. Lovely!

2 years agolast modified: 2 years agoBRAD, I guess I shouldn't spoil your anticipation on the seedlings by showing you what that cross gave me.....so I'll show a few other crosses with Spirit of the Dove as parent.
It's easy to see her influence in the kids:
first year seedling, 'Carmen Renee' x 'Spirit of the Dove'
'Spirit of the Dove' x 'Blue Dolphin'
'Spirit of the Dove' x 'Dream Sequence'

This seedling looks exactly like SOTD, the only difference is the bloom is larger, a whopping 9 inches!

2 years agoThis is Celeste’s Indian Giver x Spirit of the Dove. It is a huge bloom. Other seeds of this cross tended to show more Indian Giver colors and form.
