Ken: My personal preference would be for ones that I could use in place of our nightstands since we don't really have room for more furniture. I would also want the CPAPs completely enclosed during the day so I wouldn't have to dust around them all the time. (Call me lazy.) I still like badin's idea about keeping one in a drawer and have thought in terms of a shallow top drawer for odds and ends, a second drawer deep enough for a CPAP, and a third drawer for the rest of the bedside stuff. The CPAP drawers could be pulled out at night and closed during the day and the radio, alarm, and/or lamp could live on top of the stands. We disconnect our hoses and masks in the morning and leave them on the bed to air out during the day, so the only extra hole needed for the drawers would be in the back to put the cord through so it can stay plugged in. I'm keeping an eye on estate sales and Craigslist hoping to find a pair of night stands of the they-don't-make-them-like-this-any-more quality at a reasonable price. ;-)

Hi all! ML, I made one of these things for my bedroom about 12 years ago. My problem was it slid out. I suggest sewing some of that no-slip carpet pad or other rubbery stuff to it before you put it under the mattress. I stuck a table-top eyeglass case with fake sheepskin liner into one of the pockets for my glasses, kept cough drops and such in the pockets. It matched my headboard which I had made from plywood and foam and that I covered with two fabrics for a nice cushioned coordinated headboard. I hate to admit it but the kleenex box separates DH and me in our King bed. Whatever I am reading (with a book light tucked inside), DH's old Palm (on which I play solitaire if I can't sleep) and sometimes my carpal tunnel braces separate the two of us! Sometimes a pair of greasy cotton gloves that I use for moisturizing my hands overnight lands there, too. Occasionally the TV remote ends up there. Do ya think I am trying to build a wall to keep DH on "his" side? He sometimes thinks so! ML, when I had only a tiny space for a nightstand, I got a tiny little bath etagere from JC Penney. It had multiple wire shelves. I made a shelf for each one out of cardboard and covered it with the left over fabric from the headboard, then I did not have to deal with it only having wire shelves. Our bed sat up very high because we had a double row of drawers underneath, so I could reach a couple of the shelves from bed, keep my not-read-yet books on the bottom shelf, and still have room for our wedding pic on the top shelf. I'm afraid none of it resonates with me, not the bed hangings, the light colors, the mirrors or the strange night stands. I never read in bed so too many light sources. To me it's a superficially pretty room with no personality. Certainly can't imagine my long-haired, bearded, cowboy boots and jeans husband anywhere near it. (No he's not a redneck, he understands astrophysics.)

Finally getting back in here to respond (internet issues this week!). Thank you so much to everyone sharing their great ideas. I hope this helped others too. I agree that the first thing to do is declutter the old unused medications, of which we have many. I love the suggestions about various boxes and containers, especially the breadbox idea and the link to Ikea. We have an appliance garage that I'm still mystified as to how to use (the door on it broke right after we moved in here so it doesn't really hide anything). It kind of stores a hodgepodge of assorted stuff that changes all the time. I intend to get rid of it someday since it takes up so much counter space that could be used more effectively. I looked at the artist on Etsy and I thought the wooden boxes were lovely (and a great idea!) but I wish they were a different shape to accommodate the shape of my box, which has compartments for 2 doses a day. (I actually also take a pill in the middle of the day.) One problem with trying to store the daily pill organizers out of sight is that my dh tends to forget about it when he can't see it. So this isn't good. Finally, I should mention that I don't worry too much about keeping medications under lock and key since my youngest is turning 20 in 2 weeks and I have no grandchildren or kids that visit. I will take that into consideration if that situation changes! Thank you all again!
