The right amount of healthy carbs.
Comments (9)Correction, I saw a dietician not a nutritionist. Mitch - Thank you for the article. Oakley - I was hoping you'd weigh in. I was surprised when she told me to basically keep it the same. I figured the numbers she gave were for pregnant women. Rose - "So maybe just eating the right amount of carbs is not enough sometimes. It is just as important as to what kind of carbs you are feeding your body." I completely agree. I saw your other thread about your DH's food intolerances. I hope you're able to find some recipes. I think that would be very challenging. Dlm - Thanks for the feedback. I was hoping there would be people here that could give me some numbers for comparison. Annie - I agree with what you wrote. I don't always eat fat, protein, and carb at every meal though. Snacks too? Thanks for the info. Tina - I've been trying to eat more fiber. Made some beans today for the first time not in a can (don't laugh people). I need to look up more bean recipes. Tishtoshnm - Yeah, after I posted this I thought more about how not everyone is the same and it's going to vary. Thanks for the feedback about your 11 yo's situation. I know this isn't rocket science but the g.s. was a hard smack in the face so I wanted to see what others had to say on the topic. I tend to overthink and make things harder than they need to be at times. A few years back Bumble recommended the book Deep Nutrition. (BTW, thank you Bumble.) I enjoyed this book very much. I dug it out today and am going to read it again. I'm going to continue eating 5-6 meals a day and space my carbs out. I'm not going to eat as many as I was originally instructed. I still have some weight to lose and that's a priority....See MoreLOOKING for: low carb/fat *tote-able* snack
Comments (4)This is a recipe I picked up from the South Beach Diet forum. Baked Oat meal 1/2 cup olive oil 2/3 cup splenda (I think Splenda is bitter so I use Wheylow) 2 eggs 3 cups dry oatmeal 1 teaspoon cinnamon 1 teaspoon salt 1 cup fat free milk 1 teaspoon vanilla 1 teaspoon baking powder Wisk oil, splenda, and eggs. Add cinn, baking powder, salt, vanila and wisk again. Add oatmeal then milk and mix. Spray 9X9 cooking pan with non-stick spray. Bake at 350 for 25 minutes. Serving size 1/2 cup. VERY YUMMY! Variation: 1/4 c canola oil and 1/4c unsweetened applesauce, and 1/2c skim milk and 1/2c of plain yogurt. I did use 2 eggs. I think my glass baking dish is 8x8, and I baked it @350 for 30 mins. I think I could have baked it even longer to get 'crispier', but it came out great as is. small variation (not that this excellent recipe needs it) however since i have a piece of this daily it's nice to mix it up now again. I omit the cinnamon add 1/2 of blueberries, substitute the olive oil for 1 cup of apple sauce (I have those individual cup apple sauce on hand and use one whole one, i think its a cup. I have added a tablespoon of canola oil as well sometimes 2. Whey low brown sugar sprinked on top is nice too. Blueberries are in season and really go well with oatmeal. I make this recipe weekly and use it as a tote-able snack. Here's a link to the Wheylow site. Comments (3)I think I figured that a single Hershey's Kiss is 2.4 carbs and I'll have to check out those Russell Stover candies. Thanks, Linda. I've actually make some of the no carb chocolates posted on lowcarbfriends.com but the real stuff is soooo much better. And tell your friend to check out the health food bars. There are small, snack size chocolate bars with as little 2 net carbs. For dessert, I like the sugar free puddings. And I often mix up this one from The South Beach Diet. SOUTH BEACH RICOTTA CREMES 1/2 c. ricotta part-skim ricotta cheese 1/4 t. vanilla 1-2 pkts Splenda You can add cocoa for flavor or substitute almond extract and add some almond slivers.
