My first thought is to agree with Fruitnut. Looks like herbicide damage from a phenoxy herbicide--2,4-D, MCP, and Dicamba are probably the most commonly used and one of these is probably in weed and feed. These herbicides can release vapors which will affect the foliage on sensitive plants even if you didn't contact them directly, and quite often light damage will show up in new growth while existing growth at the time of application will show little sign of damage. Glyphosate can also result in mis-shapen growth and chlorosis on new growth after minor exposure. When applying herbicides to your lawn, do it when there is a very light breeze(not wind) that is expected to continue until the herbicide has been neutralized or washed into the ground for breakdown by the soil. If it is dead calm, vapors or mist can form and stay in your yard. A light breeze will dilute this with fresh air so it is non damaging. Some trees are just extremely sensitive to these herbicides and need to be given a wide berth when applying and don't leave the empty application equipment near the tree, either--for sensitive trees, if you can smell it, so can the tree.

Well, just a guess here, but didn't you have extreme heat last summer and into the fall, along with drought? I'm thinking that poor environmental conditions when the trees were developing flower buds probably didn't help a thing. All in all, they're still young trees, and are probably making a lot of vegetative growth yet, so perhaps too soon to expect too much. Just a guess.

I planted my Tanenashi persimmon tree 3-4 years ago and it had a very little growth since then, I mean 1-2 new small branches per year but gave 3-4 fruits every year. This year it grows like crazy, doubled size but dropped the only fruit. The only thing I did different this year is I fertilized it every 3 months with citrus fertilizer. maybe next year... :) Ana Ana

Hi, I recently received a grafted persimmon tree (kaki onto native persimmon), but the leaves were severely distorted - twisted & looked like they had a severe case of acne. Does anyone have any idea what this could be from? (more info: 1) These trees came from Florida. 2) I ordered 2 different varieties of persimmon; BOTH have the same problem. 3) The leaves were yellower when they arrived, but I assumed that was from shipping in a box. The trees have been outside on my deck since 4/28, but haven't greened up yet. I am most worried about the ?pustules, especially if they are contagious to my small home orchard.)
