@Emily, I guess in my area most are used to vinyl inside and out, so wouldn't expect to have to paint any part of the windows! But my builder knew we were doing clad windows soon after we started working together and added that higher price to the budget. I'm hoping he added the extra labor to the painting quote too ... we'll be paying for it in any case! I have a question - we had also priced out Marvin clad sliders but decided against them due to cost, as we would never get that back if we needed to sell in the short term. We went with Euro-wall which is all aluminum. I never paid attention to the fact that the Euro-wall are all one color. All my windows are bronze on the outside and will be painted BM Chantilly Lace on the inside. I will have trim around the windows and doors, also painted BM Chantilly Lace. What do I do with the sliders that will now be bronze on the inside? My builder said we can paint them. Do I want that? I was trying to keep things light and bright on the inside with low contrast. The frames are quite slim, so it won't be a large area of bronze, but still they would be the only things that would be bronze surrounded by white trim. What would you do?

We are hurting for rain also. I am trying to water, but just cant keep up, it is hard ( and expensive ) to try to replace rain. The wildlife garden is hurting much more that the house gardens. I picked the first Ukrainian butternut, and Sugar Baby watermelon yesterday, they are growing in the wildlife garden. My "Seminole Cross" is looking good, but it is hard to get enough water to it. I planted a Walthum butternut and a Seminole pumpkin about 4 feet apart last year, hoping to hand pollinate them for a cross to get a sweeter butternut and a meatier Seminole. I got busy with life and did not hand pollinate, but these plants are two volunteers that came up in that location. One plant has 2 or 3 beautiful small pumpkins, colored like a Seminole, and a plant that has 2 or 3 pumpkins that look like a cross between Old Timey Cornfield pumpkin and a Seminole pumpkin. I am interested to see how these pumpkins turn out. They may taste like they were pollinated by a tumble bug rather than a honey bee, but that remains to be seen. Nancy I took a picture of the wild looking sunflower that may have come from you, it has more flowers on it than I was thinking, it has one large flower and 18 smaller flowers. I had some sunflowers planted in that area last year also. The strange sunflower may be a mutated reseed flower or one from the seeds you sent. That ever I have I am looking forward to saving seeds from them. I tried to check my sweet potatoes yesterday. The Oklahoma Reds vines look the best, but I am not sure they are out producing the Covington, both have potatoes under them, but I did not want to disturb them. I did not check the Red Wine Velvet, the vines look very good, but I only have two vines of them, so they get babied the most. The butternut I have in the north garden look like they crossed with a Seminole, they are shaped like a butter nut, but with much larger bulb, and small neck. All of my strange plants are volunteers. No seeds will be saved from these butternut unless something spectacular happens. I need to go repair some garden hoses. I try to pull my weight by working the ground and keeping things repaired.

There's another huge bonus of induction when you have children: safety. The induction cooktop surface stays much cooler than a gas burner or radiant electric cooktop. Your child might burn herself on the cooking pan, but she's unlikely to hurt herself on the recently-used induction burner. This is personal for us. We have a special-needs teenager who recently decided all on her own to start cooking. If we still had a gas cooktop, our house would be ashes. But with induction, she can splash oil all around the cooktop, and I can pick up the pan, wipe the burner down with paper towels, and let her just keep going. We have the Wolf 36" induction, because I really liked the burner layout. It has one large burner on the right, with 4 smaller ones to the left. We can use our 16" paella pan on the right and still use all the other burners. Most other induction models have a big central burner with 4 satellites on the exterior. Using a large pan in the center can make the other burners almost un-useable, except for tiny saucepans. The downside of the Wolf though is that you can only link the small burners, not truly bridge them. When you lay down a large griddle over 2 burners (or over 4, you can link all 4 small burners), you will have a cool spot in the middle between the burners. If you need an evenly-heated large griddle surface, you would want to go with a model that offers a continuous heating element between two burners.
