The San Francisco Decorator Showcase wasn’t held in person this year due to COVID-19 concerns. Instead, the 44th annual event is providing inspiration through an interactive 3D tour. Ten of the West Coast’s leading interior design firms have reimagined rooms and created their own virtual visions for a luxurious Russian Hill penthouse in a midcentury high-rise at 1080 Chestnut St.
All of the furniture, lighting, art and accessories showcased in the penthouse are authentic designs that have been visually rendered in the penthouse to create an immersive virtual experience. The self-guided interactive 3D walk-through allows you to stop at any time to view details in each room. Take a peek at some of the inspiring spaces from this year’s show.

Lounge-Worthy Living Room
Designer: Martin Kobus Home
The living room’s centerpiece is the low-slung midcentury Environ One sofa by Ennio Chiggio. Designer Martin Kobus selected the sofa because of its lounge-like quality, establishing the space as an entertainment zone that encourages guests to go back and forth from the adjacent bar area.
The coffee table, designed by Emmanuel Babled, is topped with pieces of colored lava that give it a unique look and a volcanic texture. The cloud-like pendants were designed by Kobus. A custom cream-toned wool area rug by Haute Textile Flooring completes the stylish scene.

Restful Bedroom Suite
Designer: Catherine Kwong Design
The primary bedroom walls are painted a moody gray (Farrow & Ball’s Down Pipe) that was selected to enhance the drama of the sweeping views.
Above the bed is a site-specific charcoal drawing inspired by a line drawing by Frederic Forest. The Minotti bed is set against a custom headboard and topped with a custom pillow made from vintage tapestry. The custom nightstand was inspired by Sven Larsson’s iconic 1960s tiered table.
Across from the bed, a wall of paneled white oak with an inset fireplace cleverly conceals storage.

Teen’s Futuristic Bedroom
Designer: Chroma
This whimsical bedroom was created with a teenager in mind. Designers Leann Conquer and Alexis Tompkins were inspired by the building’s midcentury architecture to create a room that evokes the early days of space travel.
The wallcovering is a collaborative design by Chroma and de Gournay. The geometric pattern was inspired by a boutique hotel’s futuristic wall applique.
The floating bed has a bleached walnut base and is hung by four turned-metal columns. The custom headboard was also made in collaboration with de Gournay and features elaborate detailed beading that depicts a playful pattern inspired by Joan Miro’s constellation artwork. Wall-hung acrylic nightstands complete the futuristic scene.

Zen Yoga Retreat
Designer: studioHEIMAT
The yoga room is intended to be a space for relaxation and contemplation. Decorative artist Charles Leonard designed two custom plaster pieces for the space, one for storing yoga equipment and another for holding Tibetan song bowls.
